Arcade Archives 2 BATTLANTIS – out now on Xbox

Hark, hero! A call to arms has been issued from a bygone era of arcade gaming, as a sacred island finds itself under attack from a relentless army of monsters in BATTLANTIS.

The latest classic to join the Arcade Archives 2 lineup is here, as Arcade Archives 2 BATTLANTIS has launched. This 1987 shooter from the legends at KONAMI, lovingly preserved by HAMSTER Corporation, is now available exclusively on Xbox Series X|S for £7.49.

This isn’t just a simple re-release; it’s a classic outfitted with a modern armoury of new features, modes, and quality-of-life improvements.

The King’s Decree

The objective is simple, but the stakes are dire. You are the young King Cripeuss III, and it is up to you, and you alone, to save the sacred island of Battlantis. An invading army of monsters is scaling your castle walls, and you must defeat every last one of them before they breach your defenses. Go forth, your majesty, and drive back the evil monsters!

This release is part of the Arcade Archives 2 series, which brings a wealth of new tools to your strategic arsenal.

New Modes of Engagement

Your battle plan can take many forms. Beyond the faithful recreation of the ORIGINAL MODE, you can also test your skills in HI SCORE MODE and CARAVAN MODE. A new addition for this series is the TIME ATTACK MODE, where you must compete to clear the game as quickly as possible, regardless of your score.

To aid you in your defense, you have access to a host of modern tactical advantages. A crucial rewind function allows you to undo fatal errors, while multiple save slots and a quick start function let you manage your campaign.

The addition of VRR support also ensures that the action is reproduced even closer to the original arcade experience.

The Ongoing War for Retro

The war to bring these classics back to the forefront is in full swing.

BATTLANTIS joins an ever-growing lineup of “Arcade Archives 2” titles on the Xbox platform, a series that has already given us a diverse range of experiences, from the high-altitude puzzle-solving of TAITO’s STEEL WORKER to the pinball-infused brick-breaking of NAMCO’s first ever arcade game, GEE BEE.

Your Royal Summons

Here’s what you need to know before you answer the call to arms:

  • A 1987 KONAMI Classic: A fantasy shooter where you must defend your castle from a monster army.
  • Part of the Upgraded “Arcade Archives 2” Series.
  • Four Different Game Modes: Including Original, Hi Score, Caravan, and the new Time Attack Mode.
  • A Host of Modern Features: Including rewind, multiple save slots, and full VRR support.

The fate of Battlantis rests on your shoulders, your majesty.

If you’re a fan of classic arcade shooters and the fantastic preservation work of the HAMSTER Corporation, Arcade Archives 2 BATTLANTIS is ready for your command on the Xbox Store right now. Will you answer the call?

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
