Destiny 2: Bungie 30th Anniversary Edition brings even more content to the game

-

destiny 2 30th anniversary

No, you’re not imagining things, the title of this new version of Destiny 2 is Bungie 30th Anniversary Edition, despite the game only having been around since 2017. A lot has happened in the game since then: Cayde – 6 has died, the whole of the Red War story has been archived, there has been new locations and weapons added, a whole lot more taken away, and more importantly, Destiny 2 as a whole has gone free to play. It is in fact the developer’s, Bungie’s, 30th anniversary, and in order to celebrate properly, they have created a new Destiny 2 DLC pack. So, let’s have a look at what they have up their collective sleeves, shall we?

Now, the first thing that any self respecting expansion to a popular game needs is to revive a fan favourite item from years gone by, and it’s no different here. Yes, as inevitable as death and taxes, Gjallarhorn is to return to Destiny 2 after achieving mythical status in the first game. Ah, how well I remember joining LFG groups and being kicked because I hadn’t brought my Gjallarhorn, or because it wasn’t fully upgraded, or for any other ridiculous reason to be honest. This time around, not only is the rocket launcher itself back (which I am secretly pleased about, because I loved both of mine equally) but there is also a catalyst to find, and a new ornament to change the way it looks.

So, fan service is ticked off, what else does the pack bring to the table? Well, it seems like it is going to include more items to adorn your dancing Guardian with. There is a new armour set based around the iconic Thorn hand cannon, there are new weapons that are “inspired by past Bungie worlds”, so I’m imagining some kind of Halo crossover in my head already. This is wild speculation, I have to point out, as I’m not sure Bungie still have any rights to Halo gear. There will also be a “Bungie Streetwear” ornament set, and a Marathon ornament set as well (I’m assuming not based around the classic chocolate bar). In addition, as if that wasn’t enough, we are promised a new exotic ship and a new exotic sparrow, along with the usual emblems, shaders and emotes to round off the cosmetic offerings.

Perhaps most exciting is the addition of a new dungeon that harks back to the glory days of early Destiny and the loot cave in the Cosmodrome. This new dungeon, entitled Grasp of Avarice, is a 3-player activity that takes place again in the Cosmodrome, and promises to be quite challenging. In addition, a free activity called Dares of Eternity promises to reward players with even more cosmetic items. You’ll soon be the prettiest Guardian in the Tower!

Now, we are going to be bringing you some review thoughts of all this content in the fullness of time, but if you want to jump straight in and play straight away (and with the promise of Gjallarhorn, who would blame you?) all you need to do is wander over to the Xbox Store and part with ÂŁ21.99.

You’ll also find it available in the Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Deluxe + Bungie 30th Anniversary Bundle for ÂŁ87.99. Granted, you won’t be able to play The Witch Queen content until February 2022, but with that being the next big expansion, you may want to drop your cash early.

Whilst you wait for it to download, jump into the comments and let us know your thoughts. Does the promise of some Gjallahorn goodness entice you to download this pack? Does a new dungeon excite you? We want to hear about it.

DLC Description:

Celebrate Bungie’s 30th Anniversary with a new dungeon, the Gjallarhorn Exotic Rocket Launcher, Thorn armor set, and an arsenal of weapons, gear, and cosmetics inspired by Bungie’s past. 30th Anniversary Pack owners also gain access to additional cosmetic reward chests in the free Dares of Eternity activity. Grasp of Avarice Plunder the new three-player dungeon inspired by famed Cosmodrome loot caves of yore. Reveal a tale of riches and regret as you follow an adventurer who traded his humanity for treasure. Treasure Galore The Exotic Gjallarhorn returns alongside new weapons, ornament sets, emotes, Sparrows, Ghost Shells, and more. Pack your inventory with rewards that represent 30-years of Bungie, a legendary community, and a birthday party that could only happen starside.
