paint the town red launch

Ever wanted to rock up at a bar, order a quick pint and then find yourself in the middle of a ruckus? Paint the Town Red will let you get involved in the most hardcore of bar-brawls on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC.

Previously available as a Steam Early Access title since 2015, Paint the Town Red has burst out from those shackles to launch for real, debuting in 1.0 form on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Present with next-gen X|S optimisation in tow, Paint the Town Red will see you arming yourself with whatever is laying around, using glasses, ninja stars, table legs, stools and firearms to crack some skulls. In fact, if you can grab something that isn’t nailed to the ground, you can probably use it as a bit of a weapon.

Delivering the most brutal of beatdowns across six different scenarios is par for the course in Paint the Town Red, with those at South East Games providing all the tools you could ever want. With a variety of locations taking you through the madness of a disco or the dangers of a pirate cove, honing those combat skills in the voxeled world will be your main goal.

But it own’t be your only goal as the inclusion of Beneath – an underground roguelike adventure – is also present, giving even more reason to put fist to face.

The key features of Paint the Town Red on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC include:

  • Demolish completely destructible voxel-based enemies
  • Dive into action-packed scenarios including a Biker Bar, Disco, Prison, Pirate Cove and Western Saloon each filled with unique enemies and weapons
  • Face the ultimate challenge in Beneath, a massive roguelike campaign filled with deadly creatures, secrets, and bosses. Choose from a variety of classes with unique stats and abilities
  • Join the fray in the Arena mode with multiple challenges and survive as long as possible in the Endless Mode
  • Stab, shoot, and eviscerate foes with a vast array of period-appropriate weaponry
  • Defeat boss enemies with unique challenges and rewards

We’ve been thoroughly taken in by the bar-room brawls of Paint the Town Red and highly recommend you give our full review of the game on Xbox Series X|S a bit of a read. We’re pretty sure that you’ll find yourself coming away from those words with purchasing ideas in hand – and that is where the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store, the Nintendo eShop and the Steam pages come in handy. You’ll find Paint the Town red kicking and screaming your way with a £16.74 price tag attached (Xbox Store admittedly, other store prices may differ).

Let us know if you decide to kick and punch your way to glory.

Game Description:

Paint the Town Red is a chaotic first person melee combat game set in different locations and time periods and featuring a massive Rogue-Lite adventure. The voxel-based enemies can be punched, bashed, kicked, stabbed and sliced completely dynamically using almost anything that isn’t nailed down. In the Scenario levels you’ll need to use your wits, speed and anything you can get your hands on in epic bar fights, disco brawls, old west saloon rumbles and more. In the epic rogue-lite Beneath you’ll have to delve deep underground battling terrifying monsters and unlocking powerful upgrades in a battle against ancient evils.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
