Dismantle massive spaceships in Hardspace: Shipbreaker on Xbox and PlayStation

With audiences eagerly anticipating the release of Starfield in the first half of next year, the hype is sufficiently through the roof for a complex adventure that sees you travelling through space. To tide you over until then, Hardspace: Shipbreaker is looking to drag you away from the likes of No Man’s Sky and become your favourite spacey adventure!

Releasing today onto Xbox Series X|S and PS5 (this is a purely new-gen release, I’m afraid!), Hardspace: Shipbreaker launches onto consoles ahead of a successful PC release back in May 2022. Xbox fans can also look forward to it dropping onto Xbox Game Pass today.

You are an employee of LYNX: the solar system’s number one ship salvaging company, and in this role you must explore abandoned spaceships and take them apart piece by piece, salvaging any materials you find and earning upgrades to your equipment along the way. Such equipment, alongside the standard laser cutter that slices through metal like its paper, includes a grapple hook to navigate the zero-g environment with, demo charges, sensors and much more. You’ll want to make use of those charges too: being on the latest and greatest of consoles, developers Blackbird Interactive are keen to show off their amazing explosion effects!

Whilst you can switch your brain off and cut up some ships in free-play mode, there is a campaign to explore, seeing you jetting across the solar system and understanding the dangers that accompany a paycheck from LYNX. When contending with the aforementioned explosives, harmful reactor cores, and of course the ever-present threat of floating off into space, never to be heard from again, in Hardspace: Shipbreaker you will die over and over again. However, you are only a quick re-animation away from being sent back into the fray, with renewed knowledge of the challenges you are facing.

The multiplayer aspect of Hardspace: Shipbreaker comes in the form of all-important leaderboards and the R.A.C.E. mode, which tests your skills as you race against others to become the fastest to dismantle a certain ship. It’s perfect practice for the campaign, or vice versa, however you see it.

Features:

  • • Experience daily life as a blue-collar spaceship salvager
  • • Cut and destroy at will in a next-gen physics sim
  • • Salvage through a compelling campaign, relax in freeplay, or compete in timed challenges
  • • Explore a variety of ship types with unlimited variations
  • • Upgrade tools and gear to take on bigger and harder ships

Hardspace: Shipbreaker is now available on Xbox Series X|S. If you have Game Pass, you are in luck, but otherwise the game can be purchased for £32.99 via the Xbox Store. The game is also present on PS5, as well as PC (and the PC Game Pass service, too).

Game Description:

Welcome to LYNX, the solar system’s leader in spaceship salvaging! We offer you the privilege of helping turn humanity’s past into its future by salvaging ships in zero-g. Each one is a puzzle, and how you solve it is up to you! Carve your way in, salvage everything, and maximize your profit. Our cutting-edge LYNX tech helps you do the job. Slice metal with the laser cutter and use the grapple tool to move salvage with ease. Earn upgrades, such as demo charges, sensors, and safety gear. Careful where you point those tools!
