Xbox Game Pass – changes come again

This week, Xbox Game Pass is offering a fascinating choice for your next gaming obsession: will you brave the unsettling depths of the ocean, or will you embark on an over-the-top, revenge-fueled intergalactic escapade?

Seven distinct and intriguing titles land on the Xbox and PC subscription service this coming week, promising hours of unique gameplay experiences. Let’s dive in!

DREDGE

May 6th – Unravel the Mysteries Beneath the Waves

Captain your trusty fishing trawler and prepare for a darkly compelling adventure in DREDGE.

This isn’t your typical relaxing fishing sim. As you explore a collection of remote isles and their surrounding depths, a creeping sense of unease will settle in. Sell your daily catch to the local inhabitants and take on quests to learn about the troubled past of each area.

But be warned: the further you venture and the later the hour, the more likely you are to encounter something…unfathomable.

Upgrade your boat with specialised equipment to trawl deep-sea trenches and navigate to far-off lands, unlocking access to rare and valuable deep-sea curios. However, remember that time is your enemy. The creatures that lurk in the darkness are far more sinister than your average fish, demanding you strengthen your mind and utilize newfound abilities to survive your nocturnal voyages.

As we noted in our 4.5/5 review, “We want to play a double-bill of DREDGE and Moonglow Bay. Because while Moonglow Bay is the positive, life-affirming and wistful side of fishing, DREDGE is the opposite. It is monstrously gorgeous, hideously compelling, and has our fingernails down to bloody ends. We’re going to need to update that best fishing games list.

Revenge of the Savage Planet Standard Edition

May 8th – Galactic Revenge is Served!

Strap on your jetpack and prepare for a hilariously chaotic adventure in Revenge of the Savage Planet Standard Edition.

In a future where corporate greed has gone completely off the rails, you’ve been unceremoniously made redundant and dumped on the fringes of space with minimal gear and zero safety net. Your mission? Explore every nook and cranny of multiple vibrant alien planets, collect a mountain of upgrades, and meticulously scan every bizarre rock in your quest for sweet revenge against your former, utterly incompetent employer.

Across distinct and sprawling worlds, you’ll encounter weird and wonderful flora and fauna, capture strange creatures to display in your customisable Space Trailer, and unlock exciting new abilities and tools to traverse the environment.

Run, jump, shoot, grind, stomp, dodge, slide, whip, and grapple your way through a world brimming with secrets. And for those who love to share the madness, the game features dynamic online co-op with crossplay and the nostalgic joy of split-screen!

As we said about its predecessor, Journey to the Savage Planet, “Journey to the Savage Planet on Xbox One is an amazing game – there are no two ways about it. It plays fast and fluidly, the enemies are challenging to kill (especially the bosses) and with a beautifully scripted, humorous thread of story running through it’s been a joy to play.” Get ready for a similarly wild ride!

And if you can’t wait until May 8th, grab the Cosmic Hoarder Edition with 3 days early access from May 5th. However you play, we cannot wait for Revenge of the Savage Planet, and have it included front and centre in our Best Games of May article.

And the next batch of Game Pass additions is now confirmed

Alongside Revenge of the Savage Planet and Dredge this week comes all of the following…

What’s Next on Game Pass?

The Game Pass journey continues with more exciting additions on the horizon. Looking ahead to May 15th, prepare for the day-one arrival of the highly anticipated DOOM: The Dark Ages.

Stay tuned for more details on these upcoming changes. But for now, let us know what you’ll be playing through Game Pass this week.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
