Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition gets revamped Arena, Hot-Seat Mode and more

2026's Best Games

Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition will soon be coming to Xbox One and PS4, and today Bandai Namco have announced a raft of improvements that will be coming with the game.

Arriving on Xbox One and PS4 come 31st August 2018, the Definitive Edition of Divinity: Original Sin 2 will bring more chance to pick your favourite characters, whilst throwing you in to a ton of new challenges with a completely revamped Arena Mode delivering opportunities galore.

Featuring solo gameplay, online multiplayer PVP and a pass-the-controller Hot Seat mode, it’ll also be found dropping no less than 16 characters into the game, with first-time playable ones such as Malady, Zandalor, and Radeka, each coming with their own unique set of skills and abilities.

The Arena Mode will contain two game modes:

  • Classic Deathmatch – Players are pitted against each other until only one remains
  • Kill the King – Each team must protect a VIP from death.

…and these modes can be played on 13 maps that have been optimised for tactical turn-based combat, with them including five brand new arenas. Each map contains three different types chests that can be looted during the fight:

  • Destruction Coffer that contains destruction scrolls
  • Control Coffer that contains control scrolls
  • Source Coffer that contains powerful spells.

What’s more, the revamped Arena also throws in Mutators for good measure. These can give skills or change parameters during Arena battles, so for example, during Round 2, the Movement Mutator gives magical wings to all Heroes, allowing them to travel long distances and during Round 7, the Mutators initiates Sudden Death, reducing the health of all Heroes to the minimum levels. Mutators, along with a number of other parameters, can be customised by the host.

Are these new amendments something that will push you into the turn based combat of Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition? Let us know in the comments below.
