A quiet trip to a lakeside cabin should be the perfect escape from city life. Unfortunately, in Don’t Mess With Bober, one small mistake turns that relaxing getaway into a survival horror nightmare… and the culprit is an extremely angry beaver.
Now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, Don’t Mess With Bober is an atmospheric first-person horror experience from Peace Studio, published by Axyos Games.
Drawing inspiration from classic 1980s horror films, the game blends tense stealth mechanics with dark humour, environmental storytelling and a surprisingly terrifying woodland setting.

A Vacation Gone Very Wrong
In Don’t Mess With Bober, players step into the shoes of Matthew, a man taking a break from city life at a remote cabin owned by a friend.
The peaceful countryside setting promises fresh air, fishing by the river and a quiet retreat from everyday stress. There’s just one rule posted nearby: don’t mess with the beaver. Naturally, things go wrong.
After accidentally destroying the animal’s dam, Matthew quickly discovers that the local wildlife is not as harmless as it looks. What begins as a minor mishap soon turns into a full-blown nightmare as the enraged beaver begins hunting him through the surrounding woods.
Survival Horror With A Twist
While most horror games feature ghosts, monsters or supernatural creatures, Don’t Mess With Bober takes a more unusual approach.
Your main antagonist is a furious beaver – but the tension is very real.
Gameplay revolves around stealth, evasion and survival, as players attempt to avoid the creature while navigating the environment. The experience leans heavily into cat-and-mouse gameplay, forcing players to move carefully, hide when necessary and stay alert for danger.
Fishing, Forests And Fear
Despite the looming threat, the game’s setting initially feels calm and familiar.
Players can explore the surrounding forest area, interact with the environment and even spend time river fishing before things spiral into chaos. But once the chase begins, every sound and shadow becomes a potential threat.
The game’s design relies on environmental storytelling, gradually revealing clues about the situation and the strange events unfolding around the cabin.
A Darkly Comedic Horror Tone
But of course, part of what makes Don’t Mess With Bober stand out is its unusual balance of horror and humour.
Yes, the idea of being stalked by an angry beaver is inherently absurd. But the game leans into that premise with a darkly comedic tone, blending genuine tension with moments of ridiculousness that feel right at home in the B-movie horror tradition of the 1980s.
It’s a playful twist on survival horror that doesn’t take itself too seriously, even if the gameplay still keeps players on edge.
Whatever You Do… Don’t Mess With Bober
Now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S (through the Xbox Store, £8.39), PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, Don’t Mess With Bober offers a survival horror experience that’s as strange as it is tense.
Just remember the lesson Matthew learned the hard way: If you see a sign warning you not to mess with the beaver… it’s probably best to listen.
