DOOM The Dark Ages Revelations – out now

Just when it looked like the DOOM Slayer had carved a path through every nightmare imaginable, another battle begins. DOOM: The Dark Ages is expanding once again with Revelations, a sizeable new campaign that sends the Slayer into a twisted purgatory filled with fresh horrors, tougher battles and long-buried secrets.

Available today on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, the expansion continues the Slayer’s story while introducing new weapons, enemies and gameplay systems, alongside a substantial free update for all existing players.

At A Glance

  • DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations is out today
  • ÂŁ17.99
  • Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC
  • New campaign expansion with the Chain Spear weapon and Ripatorium 3.0 update

A Journey Through Purgatory

Revelations picks up with the Slayer at one of his lowest points. Wounded, betrayed and trapped within a brutal purgatory, survival is only possible by confronting painful truths and forging an uneasy alliance with a mysterious new companion.

The campaign introduces a completely new chapter in the DOOM saga, taking players through fresh environments packed with larger puzzles, hidden mysteries and powerful new enemies standing between the Slayer and freedom.

As ever, id Software promises relentless action, but this expansion also leans further into exploration and environmental storytelling than before.

Meet The Chain Spear

The biggest gameplay addition comes in the form of the Chain Spear, an entirely new weapon that adds another layer to DOOM’s already frantic combat.

Rather than simply offering another way to dispatch demons, the Chain Spear rewards players who master its mechanics, providing greater mobility alongside devastating offensive potential. It opens up new combat opportunities while encouraging a more aggressive, fluid style of play.

Combined with the new enemy roster, Revelations looks set to challenge even experienced Slayer veterans.

Ripatorium 3.0 Arrives For Everyone

Launching alongside the paid expansion is the free Ripatorium 3.0 update.

Available to all DOOM: The Dark Ages players, the update introduces expanded customisation options, improved passcode generation and the ability to save and load personal presets.

Players who own the Premium Edition, Collector’s Bundle or Digital Upgrade can also access three additional Ripatorium maps, new demons and fully upgraded weapons after completing the Revelations campaign. For everyone else, upgrading to the Premium Edition remains another route into the new content. And remember, DOOM: The Dark Ages is on Game Pass if you subscribe.

Another Brutal Chapter For The Slayer

DOOM has never been a series content to stand still, and Revelations looks to continue that tradition by expanding both the story and the combat systems rather than simply offering more arenas to clear.

When we reviewed DOOM: The Dark Ages, we awarded it an impressive 4.5/5, saying: “DOOM: The Dark Ages is a gloriously gory game which manages to feel familiar but fresh at the same time. Adapting the gameplay may well have seemed like a gamble, but in the capable hands of id Software, it has certainly paid off.

With a fresh campaign, a powerful new weapon and another free update arriving alongside it, Revelations gives players plenty of reasons to jump back into one of this year’s finest shooters.

DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations is available today on Xbox Series X|S (through the Xbox Store), PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam) for ÂŁ17.99, with Premium Edition and Collector’s Bundle owners receiving the expansion at no additional cost.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
