Remember Dragon Ball: The Breakers, the asymmetrical multiplayer game that had us battling for survival against iconic Dragon Ball villains? Well, the game is back with Season 7, introducing new characters, rewards, and gameplay mechanics in an attempt to re-energise the player base.
A New Raider Emerges
Season 7 brings a unique twist to the Raider role with the introduction of Gamma 1 & 2, the heroic androids from the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film.
These justice-seeking siblings offer a distinct gameplay experience, utilising their Energy Scope to locate survivors and evolving through multiple forms, culminating in the awakening of the fearsome Cell Max.
New Challenges and Rewards
Survivors aren’t left defenseless against this new threat. By finding the Super Transphere, they can transform into Orange Piccolo (Giant), the only hero capable of challenging Cell Max’s might.
Season 7 also introduces daily login rewards, Super Warrior Spirits, and Spirit Siphon Tickets, allowing players to unlock new characters and celebrate the game’s 2nd anniversary. Multipliers for experience, zenis, and Super Warrior Spirits are also active throughout the season, offering a boost to player progression.
Season 7 – Riding to the Rescue!
While these new additions are certainly welcome, it remains to be seen whether they can revitalise Dragon Ball: The Breakers.
As we noted in our review of The Breakers, at launch the game suffered from several shortcomings, including lengthy matchmaking, clunky gameplay mechanics, and underwhelming visuals. The core gameplay loop, while offering moments of excitement, often felt repetitive, lacking the depth and polish of other asymmetrical multiplayer titles.
A Glimmer of Hope?
Despite its flaws, Dragon Ball: The Breakers still holds potential, especially for fans of the Dragon Ball franchise. The introduction of new characters like Gamma 1 & 2 and Cell Max, along with the enhanced rewards and multipliers, might be enough to entice players back into the fray.
Dragon Ball: The Breakers Season 7 is available today on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Head to the likes of the Xbox Store to nail a download.
Will this new season be enough to break the cycle of mediocrity and unleash the game’s true potential? Only time will tell, but we are hopeful.
