The earth-shattering power of a Legendary Super Saiyan has arrived in DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS with the launch of Season 9.
Season 9 is officially live for all players on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This huge new update introduces the formidable Broly (Z) as a new Raider, alongside significant reworks for existing Raiders Cell and Majin Buu.
This is the latest in a long line of updates for the asymmetrical survivor game, but with a history of mixed reception, the question is whether this power-up is enough to change its fortunes.
Another Power-Up for a Struggling Survivor
It’s no secret that DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS has had a difficult journey. In our original 2.5/5 review, we were critical of its core experience, stating that “The lengthy matchmaking, the poor gameplay mechanics and the damn ugly graphics… are just the tip of the iceberg.” We concluded that players were “essentially trying to survive the boredom… more than anything else.“
The one bright spot we noted was that “Only the Raider experience can provide anything worth partaking in.” Season 9 seems to double down on that, focusing almost exclusively on making the Raider role more dynamic and exciting.
The Legendary Super Saiyan Arrives
The headline act of Season 9 is the new Raider, Broly (Z), who brings a unique and strategic evolution path to the game.
- Level 1: You begin as Paragus, accompanied by Broly who can be controlled to attack Survivors.
- The Choice: From here, you have a strategic choice. You can either evolve to Level 2, transforming into Broly (Super Saiyan) and fighting in this form until you can reach Level 4. Alternatively, you can wait until your gauge is at 200% and automatically evolve from Level 1 directly to Level 3’s Broly (Restrained), providing a much faster path to your final, all-powerful Level 4 form.
Old Foes, New Tricks
Two of the game’s original Raiders have also received significant upgrades to their late-game power.
At Level 4, Cell now gains access to a new active skill: “Make Them Suffer, Cell Juniors!” This allows him to summon up to seven autonomous Cell Jrs (with three active at a time) that will automatically hunt down and attack Survivors, making him even more dominant in the final stages of a match.
Majin Buu also gets a new Level 4 form: Majin Buu (Gohan Absorbed). To achieve this, Buu must now fight with Survivors over the powerful Super Transpheres, absorbing them to evolve. This new form maintains Buu’s “high-risk, high-reward” style but adds more stability and power to his late-game battles.
New Season, New Packs
As with previous seasons, two new premium packs are available for purchase to coincide with the launch of Season 9:
- Season 9 Starter Pack (£11.99): Includes 1,500 TP Tokens and a Device Card for trying out new skills.
- Season 9 TP Token Special Bonus (£39.99): Includes 7,000 TP Tokens for use in the in-game shop.
The escape timer is ticking on another season, and the question remains: are these powerful new Saiyans and Raider reworks enough to finally break the cycle of mediocrity? For fans of playing the villain, this is the most compelling reason yet to dive back in and see if you can be the one to finally wipe out those pesky Survivors.
Season 9 is live now.
