DRAGON QUEST I & II HD2D Remake is coming later in 2025

Get ready, RPG fans! Square Enix has officially announced that the highly anticipated DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake is set to launch later in 2025.

Due to land on October 30th, 2025, this exciting news, unveiled as part of the Dragon Quest Day celebrations – marking the anniversary of the original DRAGON QUEST’s debut on May 27th, 1986 – means Xbox players can soon experience the epic conclusion to the Erdrick Trilogy in a stunning new visual style.

The collection is slated for release on Xbox Series X|S, alongside Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Digital pre-orders are live now!

This announcement follows the successful launch of DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake in November 2024, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

The Erdrick Trilogy Concludes in Glorious HD-2D

DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake brings together full remakes of the first two legendary titles in the series, offering players a chance to witness the full tale, and then dramatic and satisfying culmination, of the “Erdrick Trilogy.”

Newcomers won’t be left out either, as they can dive into the entire saga with the newly announced digital-only DRAGON QUEST HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy Collection. This comprehensive package bundles together DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake and the upcoming DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake into one definitive set, ensuring everyone can experience the lineage of the legendary hero Erdrick.

Reflecting on the previous instalment, our review of DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake stated, “DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake does a brilliant job of keeping as close to the original without diverting too much. It is a remake, but not perhaps in the way you would expect, with so many other recent remakes changing so much. Here, that isn’t the case; even the stunning HD-2D visuals are to remind you that this is a traditional JRPG now, as it was then. That does mean however, that there will be very little here to convince those who didn’t like the original, or even turn-based JRPG otherwise, such is the tradition pouring out here.

We anticipate a similar dedication to the source material, enhanced by the beautiful HD-2D aesthetic, in these upcoming remakes.

What’s New in DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake?

Beyond the captivating HD-2D graphics that breathe new life into these classic adventures, players can look forward to a refined battle system and numerous quality-of-life updates. Perhaps most excitingly, Square Enix has promised “major story additions” for both DRAGON QUEST I and DRAGON QUEST II.

While specific details about this new content are being kept under wraps for now, the prospect of expanded narratives and fresh gameplay elements is sure to thrill long-time fans and intrigue new players alike. We’ll be keeping a keen eye out for further announcements as we approach the October release date.
