Dragon Snack From ice to Ember – out now on Xbox and PC

Some games feel like they’re designed to be finished in one sitting, and Dragon Snack: From Ice to Ember happily leans into that idea. It’s light, colourful, and built around a simple hook that quickly turns into a satisfying little brain teaser.

Now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC (with an optimised Series X|S version) for ÂŁ4.19, this latest from Afil Games continues their run of bite-sized puzzlers – this time swapping farms and grids for a hungry dragon trying to find its way home.

At A Glance

  • Game: Dragon Snack: From Ice to Ember
  • Developer: Afil Games
  • Publisher: Afil Games
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S (Optimised), Xbox One, Windows PC
  • Price: ÂŁ4.19
  • Game Type: Puzzle / Cozy

A Simple Path With A Few Twists

The goal is easy to grasp. Guide a small dragon safely back to its nest by building a path across a hex-based grid.

How you get there is where things start to open up. Tiles can be rotated, swapped and repositioned, turning each level into a small puzzle box that asks you to think a step ahead. Throw in coins to collect, obstacles to break through and a few clever layout quirks, and suddenly those simple routes require a bit more planning.

There’s no pressure to rush, though. You’re free to experiment, undo mistakes and try different approaches until everything clicks.

A Relaxed Pace That Fits The Puzzle

Across 30 levels and three distinct biomes, Dragon Snack keeps things varied without ever becoming overwhelming.

The shift between icy and fiery environments adds a bit of visual flavour, but the real focus remains on the puzzles themselves. Each one is short, self-contained and designed to be completed in a few minutes, making it easy to dip in and out whenever you’ve got time.

A Familiar Formula That Still Works

If you played the original Dragon Snack, you’ll recognise the approach here.

In our 3.5/5 review of that first outing, we described it as “a good path-building puzzler that’s not going to break the bank… with fun to be had by figuring out the solutions.” That same idea carries through into From Ice to Ember.

A Warm Little Puzzle Worth A Look?

Dragon Snack: From Ice to Ember isn’t trying to do anything groundbreaking, but it doesn’t need to. It delivers a cosy, accessible puzzle experience with just enough thought required to keep things engaging.

If you’re after something light, colourful and easy to jump into, this is one little dragon worth guiding home. You’ll find it on the Xbox Store in three versions – there’s one that is optimised for Xbox Series X|S, another that is playable on Xbox One, and then one for Windows PC.

Stay tuned for our review.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
