Wreckreation
Wreckreation – available now

If you’ve ever been playing an arcade racer and wished you could just pause time, pluck a giant ramp from the sky, and place it right in front of you, your ridiculously specific dream has just come true in Wreckreation.

Wreckreation, the new open-world arcade racing sandbox from the original creators of the Burnout series, has launched today.

This ultimate driving playground from developer Three Fields Entertainment (also behind Dangerous Golf) and publisher THQ Nordic is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC for ÂŁ34.99.

This is your world and your rules, in a 400 square kilometre sandbox where you can build, drive, and destroy to your heart’s content, either alone or with friends.

Your World, Your Rules

The true, groundbreaking feature of Wreckreation is its Live Mix system. This is not a separate, menu-based track editor; it’s an instantaneous creation tool you can use at any time.

While driving, you can instantly reshape your surroundings. Feel like this long straight needs a giant loop? Drop one in. Want to see if your car can clear a barn with a ramp? Place one. You can drop jumps, half-pipes, spirals, and even moving obstacles anywhere on the map to create your perfect stunt park or race track.

Your control doesn’t stop at the scenery. You can also change the weather, time of day, and even the traffic density on the fly. You can create a rainy, night-time race through heavy traffic or a serene, sunny-day stunt session, all with the press of a button.

A Crash Course We’ve Been Waiting For

We’ve had our eyes on this chaotic creator for a while now. It was just last month that we were reporting on the news that Wreckreation from the creators of Burnout would crash onto consoles this October. That day has finally arrived, and it looks every bit as wild as we had hoped. We’ll find out how it goes in full review very soon.

Check out the chaotic release trailer here:

Your Arcade Sandbox

The world is yours to create, and you’ll have the tools to look and feel the part.

The game features more than 50 fully customisable vehicles, and in a fantastic move, all customisation options are available from the very start. You can immediately adjust your paint, finish, wheels, boost flames, engine sounds, and glass colour.

To complete the vibe, you can tune in to 16 different radio stations, covering everything from high-energy disco to smooth jazz.

You can define how you play too. The entire 400 square kilometre world is a competition. You can set records in eight different categories, from drifting and air time to near misses. You can also create your own game modes, from standard races and drift tournaments to wild team stunt events where every crash and spin earns points for your squad.

Your Sandbox Toolkit

Here’s a look at what’s included in your new world of automotive mayhem:

  • The Ultimate Open-World Arcade Racing Sandbox from the original creators of Burnout.
  • Groundbreaking “Live Mix” System: Instantly edit the world around you, dropping ramps, loops, and obstacles at any time.
  • A 400 Square Kilometre World: Full of endless roads, trails, and open spaces to explore.
  • 50+ Fully Customisable Vehicles: With all options unlocked from the start.
  • Create Your Own Game Modes: Design standard races, drift tournaments, or team stunt events.
  • Compete Your Way: Fight for the top of the leaderboards in eight different categories.

The keys have been handed over, and an entire world is waiting to be shaped (and wrecked). If you’re a fan of classic arcade racers and have been dreaming of a game with ultimate creative freedom, Wreckreation is ready for you on the Xbox Store right now, playable on Xbox Series X|S. Alternatively, head to the stores of PC or PlayStation.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
