Scratch The Cat
Scratch The Cat – coming to PC, Xbox and PlayStation

Prepare for a vibrant, rhythm-infused 3D platforming adventure as Scratch the Cat has been revealed.

Developer and publisher FlatPonies has unveiled Scratch The Cat, a brand-new action-adventure where you play as a DJ cat on a mission to reclaim his stolen record collection.

This colourful title is set to spin its way onto PC, Xbox and PlayStation in the near future, with a specific release window and price still to be announced.

Meet DJ Scratch: On a Quest for Lost Vinyl

Scratch The Cat promises to be a tribute to the golden age of 3D platformers but with a distinctive musical twist.

Players will step into the nimble paws of Scratch, a rhythm-driven feline whose irreplaceable record collection has been shattered and scattered by the villainous Snatch the Rat and his gang of gnarly goons.

With your paws on the virtual decks, you’ll guide DJ Scratch through expressive, fluid movement. He’s not just any cat; he’s quick, agile, and packed with style! Expect to run, jump, slide, climb, swim, and dive through vibrant levels, chaining together moves to reach hidden areas or traverse obstacles with flair. Mastering Scratch’s unique abilities will be key to exploring this music-infused world and uncovering its many secrets.

Pure Platforming Vibes with a Beat

Scratch The Cat aims to deliver an experience that feels like an energetic mixtape:

  • Collect Record Fragments & More: Your primary goal is to track down the scattered pieces of Scratch’s record collection to unlock new levels and restore harmony to the world. Along the way, you’ll solve puzzles, navigate tricky platforms, collect “Juke Bucks” for Jukie the Jukebox, and help out a cast of quirky characters.
  • Rhythm-Infused Boss Battles: Go paw-to-paw with Snatch’s sneaky squad! Each boss encounter is designed as a stage where you’re the headliner, blending platforming mastery with rhythm-inspired mechanics to keep you on your toes. Outsmart Snatch’s gang with style and flair, liberate allies like the starfish people, and collect your rewards.
  • Explore a Musical World: Step into a universe where music isn’t just background noise – it is life, literally shaping the visuals, gameplay, and flow of every level. From the bustling streets of Melotropolis to the serene shores of Arpeggio Archipelago, every corner pulses with rhythm, from traffic lights to head-bobbing turtles. Your adventure will take you through lush jungles, underwater caves, volcanic peaks, and beyond.

Customise Your Groove & Developer Passion

Player expression is at the heart of Scratch’s adventure. You’ll be able to customise Scratch’s look by unlocking unique outfits to personalise your journey.

All this is set to a signature “Scratch The Cat” soundtrack, a celebration of music that mixes vinyl scratching with unconventional genres and instruments to create a truly distinct sound.

The game itself spun out from a student project by Felix Sherar, Creative Director at FlatPonies, who shared his enthusiasm: “The fact that I get to make my dream project — and that I have a skilled team working together toward that. The best part is when someone on the team has been working on something they’re really excited to show me. That gets me really excited as well.

Get Ready to Find Your Rhythm

Scratch The Cat is shaping up to be an energetic, colorful, and surprise-filled 3D platformer with a truly unique musical heart.

While a release window and price are still under wraps, FlatPonies is encouraging players to keep an eye out for future updates. Whether you’re here for the tight controls or the catchy beats, it looks like there will be plenty to love in Scratch’s world.

We’ll keep you looped but for now, hit up the trailer. There’s an Xbox Store page, some Steam wishlisting, or the PlayStation Store to keep you busy too.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
