After a year of updates, improvements and expansion on PC, Dune: Awakening is finally making its way to Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass.
Landing on September 22nd, Xbox players won’t even need to buy it with cold hard cash either, as Funcom has confirmed that the ambitious open-world survival experience will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, making the journey to Arrakis far more accessible for console players.
But this isn’t simply a console port. September’s release brings what Funcom describes as the definitive version of Dune: Awakening, packed with new features, major gameplay changes and, for the first time, a fully playable single-player experience.

A Big Win For Game Pass Subscribers
The headline news for us Xbox owners is undoubtedly the Game Pass announcement.
From September 22nd, subscribers will be able to jump straight into Dune: Awakening through Xbox Game Pass, while Xbox Play Anywhere support means progress can seamlessly carry between Xbox consoles and the Microsoft Store version on PC. Cross-play support between those platforms is also included.
Funcom is also embracing Microsoft’s wider ecosystem, confirming compatibility with Xbox Cloud Gaming and the ROG Xbox Ally, giving players even more ways to survive the harsh deserts of Arrakis.
The Biggest Change? You Can Play Alone
Perhaps the most significant gameplay addition arrives in the form of a full single-player mode.
While Dune: Awakening originally focused on its online survival roots, the September update allows players to experience the entire game solo from start to finish. Difficulty can be adjusted, progression rates tweaked, and a wide range of custom settings enabled to create a more personal experience.
For players who love the Dune universe but were hesitant about committing to a large multiplayer world, this could be the feature that changes everything.
The Story Finally Reaches Its Conclusion
Xbox players will also arrive at the perfect time.
The September release includes the conclusion of Book One, delivering the finale to the cinematic storyline that has gradually evolved throughout the game’s first year on PC. New players will be able to experience the entire narrative from beginning to end without waiting for additional story chapters.
Combined with expanded map locations, new content and numerous quality-of-life improvements, newcomers will be stepping into a much more complete version of the game than PC players originally received at launch.
A Better Arrakis For Everyone
Beyond the new single-player option, Funcom has spent the past year reshaping many of the game’s core systems.
Optional PvP now allows players to focus entirely on PvE if they prefer, while the endgame has been rebuilt with additional content and improved balance. New tools also help protect player progress, making it easier to step away from the game without worrying about losing hard-earned resources or structures.
Console players will receive all of these changes from day one, alongside a controller-friendly interface and controls specifically designed for Xbox and PlayStation. Performance Mode is targeting 60fps on Xbox Series X.
Yet even with the console launch looming, Funcom already has its sights set on what’s next. Later this year, players can expect a major free update introducing the Polar Cap, a brand-new survival region located at the frozen pole of Arrakis. The icy biome promises new challenges, mechanics and opportunities for exploration, offering a very different environment from the endless deserts that define much of the current game.
September Could Be The Perfect Time To Start
For Xbox players, September 22nd looks set to deliver the most complete version of Dune: Awakening yet. Between the full story campaign, the new single-player option, months of gameplay improvements and day one Game Pass availability, there’s a strong argument that this will be the ideal way to begin a journey across Arrakis.
Whether you’re a fan of Frank Herbert’s novels, Denis Villeneuve’s films, or simply enjoy survival games with a unique sci-fi twist, Dune: Awakening will be ready to make a major impact when it arrives on Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass later this year.
Funcom have everything detailed if you need to know more. The Xbox Store page is up too.
