DYE is aptly named due to its love of colour and dying – and those are two things you will be seeing a lot of in this Super Meat Boy-esque platformer.
Your time spent jumping around the various levels and enemies DYE throws your way will be done all in order to help your little HUE defeat the evil Necrolights, obtaining Pigments and restoring a touch of colour to what is at first quite a monochrome world.
It’s not just the simple jump HUE will be pulling off either, with a wall jump and a float also key to success. Timing is also integral; expect moving hazards and platforms aplenty as you collect items throughout each level, before jumping into the exit. The collectibles won’t be permanently stored either, and to keep one as your own you must grab it before encountering a checkpoint: die before this and the item will go straight back to where it came – leaving you possibly a tad frustrated.
But this is the nature of the beast. Yes, you will be dying tens, possibly even hundreds of times throughout a single level and with differing difficulties found throughout 4 worlds, with each centered around a certain colour, finally seeing a level through to completion will be hugely satisfying. DYE most certainly brings an addictive ‘one more go’ to proceedings.
DYE is however only available in the North America region – sorry everyone else. But do keep an eye out for our review, which will be arriving in the coming days. If you happen to find yourself in the North America region, then you can pick up DYE for $4.99 from the Microsoft Store, but if you are quick you may get a launch discount thrown in too.
Happy jumping. And happy DYING!
