The streets of Villedor just got a whole lot more unpredictable. As part of the newly announced “Summer of Dying Light” event, Techland has unleashed a surprise collaboration of epic proportions, bringing the roguelike deck-builder phenomenon Balatro to the world of Dying Light 2: Stay Human.
This new crossover content is completely free and available today, June 26th, for all players on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
This unexpected team-up is the headline act of a massive new update for Dying Light 2, which also includes a community celebration event, all launching ahead of the release of Dying Light: The Beast this August.
This crossover isn’t just a simple cosmetic pack; it brings the game of chance and high-stakes risk that defines Balatro directly into the gameplay of Dying Light 2.
A Test of Fortune
To get started, players need to seek out mysterious posters in the Bazaar and the Fish Eye cantina. This will kick off two new side quests, one of which is filled with devilish riddles that will test your knowledge of Villedor’s deepest secrets. Conquering these challenges will unlock the full “Friend of Aiden” bundle for free.
The Friend of Aiden Bundle
This free bundle is packed with Balatro-themed gear that comes with unique gameplay effects:
- Jimbo’s Outfit: A new outfit to show you’re not clowning around when it comes to slaying the infected.
- Ceremonial Dagger: It’s no longer just a Joker. This new weapon has a special perk: your damage multiplier increases as you defeat different types of enemies and perform finishers.
- Joker Charm: Which Joker will you get? Who knows! Just like in Balatro, every time you create this weapon charm, you’ll receive a random one with a unique gameplay effect. Some will be more useful than others, adding a thrilling layer of chance to your loadout.
- Flying Blind Paraglider: Every good poker player needs an exit plan. This new paraglider skin will have you soaring over Villedor in style.
Building on a Legendary Foundation
Techland continues its incredible post-launch support for a game we already loved. In our 4/5 review of Dying Light 2: Stay Human, we said that “if you loved the original Dying Light, you’re going to have a huge amount of fun with Dying Light 2.” We called it a “brilliant” experience that was “more than worthy of your time.”
This constant stream of creative, free content only adds to that value.
This crossover is part of the larger “Summer of Dying Light” event, which also includes a “Retouched Update” for the original Dying Light, enhancing its graphics and audio a decade after its release, as well as a four-week-long UGC Fest in Dying Light 2 celebrating the best community-made content.
“We promised at least five years of support for Dying Light 2, and our fans can count on it,” says Tymon SmektaĹ‚a, Dying Light Franchise Director at Techland. “This summer we’re going all in for our community.“
The deck has been shuffled, and a wild card has been dealt. The free Balatro crossover content for Dying Light 2: Stay Human is live right now, offering a fantastic and unexpected new way to survive the streets of Villedor. It’s time to test your luck.
