From Ratings Debate To Football Royalty
Only last week, we were running through the highest-rated players in EA SPORTS FC 27, as the annual ratings debate got underway across men’s and women’s football. Now, the conversation shifts towards players whose careers are already firmly written into football history.
The Class of ’27 adds ten new ICONs to EA SPORTS FC 27, with several representing women’s football exclusively within the console and PC game.
Those new names? Well…
- Formiga – EA SPORTS FC 27 only
- Hege Riise – EA SPORTS FC 27 only
- Yūki Nagasato – EA SPORTS FC 27 only
- Raphaël Varane
- Sergio Agüero
- Tobin Heath – EA SPORTS FC 27 only
- Pepe
- Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
- Ellen White – EA SPORTS FC 27 only
- Christine Sinclair – EA SPORTS FC 27 only
Christine Sinclair’s arrival is notable, with the Canadian football legend becoming the first Canadian player to receive EA SPORTS FC ICON status.
“To be the first Canadian named an EA SPORTS FC ICON is an incredible honour,” said Christine Sinclair. “Winning Canada’s first major international title was something we had worked toward for so long, and seeing what it meant for women’s soccer back home made us incredibly proud. To have that moment become part of my ICON story, and hopefully inspire the next generation, means a lot.”
“To be named an EA SPORTS FC ICON means a great deal to me,” said Pepe. “I always played with intensity, passion, and complete commitment every time I stepped onto the pitch. Looking back on that journey, it’s a proud moment to see my career become part of FC’s ICON legacy.”
Lúcio And Yaya Touré Make The Step Up
It’s not just entirely new names joining the ICON family either. Two players previously seen as EA SPORTS FC Heroes are making the jump into full ICON territory. Both Lúcio and Yaya Touré now join the returning ICON roster, recognising careers that saw them become standout names for club and country.
They line up alongside some familiar returning legends:
- Zinedine Zidane
- Ruud Gullit
- Fernando Torres
- Gianluca Zambrotta
- Lúcio
- Andrea Pirlo
- Yaya Touré
- Bastian Schweinsteiger
More Than Just Ultimate Team Cards
For many players, ICONs have become synonymous with Ultimate Team, but their arrival remains one of the clearest ways EA SPORTS FC celebrates the careers and defining moments of football’s biggest names.
EA says the Class of ’27 has been built around the performances and achievements that turned remarkable players into lasting legends, with ICONs able to take to the pitch alongside the current generation of football stars.
Those pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Plus Edition by August 31st can also receive an untradeable 85+ OVR International ICON Player Pack, containing either one of the new Class of ’27 ICONs or a returning legend for Football Ultimate Team.
ICONs Also Arrive In EA SPORTS FC Mobile
The celebrations aren’t limited to EA SPORTS FC 27. The new men’s ICONs are also available in EA SPORTS FC Mobile from today.
Players can unlock special versions of the legends by taking on in-game challenges, with four PvE matches inspired by memorable moments from their respective careers.
EA SPORTS FC 27 Kicks Off In September
EA SPORTS FC 27 launches worldwide on September 25th, 2026, with those picking up the Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Plus Edition able to start playing from September 18th.
The game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
And after recent arguments over whether the ratings got it right, the arrival of a new crop of ICONs gives football fans something else to debate – because if there’s one thing football fans enjoy almost as much as watching the game, it’s arguing about who deserves legendary status.
