The portal to Maple Town has reopened, but this time, we’re leaving the suburbs behind for something far stranger.
Cococucumber has officially revealed Echo Generation 2, the direct sequel to their award-winning sci-fi indie hit. The new adventure is set to launch in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and will be available day one via Xbox Game Pass.
Revealed with a stunning new trailer, this sequel promises to take the charming voxel art style and 80s nostalgia of the original and expand it into a cosmic, dimension-hopping journey with a completely revamped combat system.
A Sequel That Shuffles the Deck
When we first visited Maple Town in the original Echo Generation, we were captivated by its charm. In our 4/5 review, we called it “a simple but very enjoyable adventure which captures the magic of being young,” praising its ability to create a “sense of excitement and wonder” without becoming a “repetitive slog.”
Echo Generation 2 looks to build on that wonder while completely reinventing how you fight. The sequel is ditching the traditional turn-based combat of its predecessor in favour of a dynamic deckbuilder system.
Welcome to a New Dimension
The story picks up after the events of the first game, but the perspective has shifted. You now step into the boots of Jack, an ordinary dad who finds himself lost among the stars.
Jack must explore a whole new dimension far beyond the familiar streets of his hometown. His journey to find a way back home will see him meeting quirky new allies and facing off against unexpected extra-terrestrial enemies in a world that blends sci-fi mystery with the series’ signature nostalgic flair.
The new combat system features over 100 unique cards to collect and master. You’ll need to craft powerful combos, unleash devastating attacks, and summon allies to your side to survive the strange new threats that lurk in the void.
