Echoes Of Aincrad – coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC

Fans of the Sword Art Online universe are about to return to one of anime’s most iconic settings as Echoes of Aincrad, a brand-new action RPG from Bandai Namco, has officially been announced. And it’s bringing players back to the legendary floating castle that started it all.

Launching on July 10th 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Echoes of Aincrad promises a fresh adventure within the world of Aincrad, but with a twist: this time you are the hero.

Rather than stepping directly into the shoes of an existing character, players will create their own avatar and carve a path through a world where every fight carries real consequences.

With dynamic combat, deep customization and the promise of dangerous boss encounters, the game is shaping up to be a major new entry for fans of the franchise.

Return To The Floating Castle Of Aincrad

Echoes of Aincrad transports players back to the breathtaking world of Aincrad, the massive floating castle filled with dangerous monsters, mysterious dungeons and sprawling cities.

But instead of simply reliving the story fans already know, the game invites players to step inside the world themselves. Through extensive character customization, you’ll create your own adventurer and become one of the players fighting to survive the deadly game.

As you progress through quests and missions, you’ll explore a wide variety of environments, from peaceful plains to hazardous dungeons hiding powerful enemies and secrets. Each location promises encounters designed to test both your combat skills and strategic thinking.

Fast-Paced Combat With Skill At Its Core

Combat in Echoes of Aincrad focuses on timing, positioning and mastery.

Players will need to rely on well-timed dodges, parries and carefully executed attacks to survive battles. As you level up, your character can evolve through equipment upgrades, new weapons and skill choices that shape your personal playstyle.

Every build can feel different depending on the abilities you unlock and the gear you equip, encouraging experimentation as you climb through Aincrad’s challenges.

Fight Alongside Trusted Companions

While the adventure places your custom hero at the centre of the story, you won’t be tackling the dangers of Aincrad entirely alone.

Each outing allows you to choose a partner who fights alongside you in battle. Their behaviour can be adjusted to match your approach, whether you want an aggressive ally pushing forward or a more supportive companion assisting from the back lines.

As your bond with these partners grows, new powerful abilities become available, adding another strategic layer to combat encounters.

Pre-Order Editions And Bonuses

Pre-orders for Echoes of Aincrad are already live across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Players who pre-order will receive a Weapon Pack bonus, and three different editions are available:

A New Story In A Familiar World

While Aincrad is one of the most recognisable locations in the Sword Art Online universe, Echoes of Aincrad appears set to offer a new perspective on the legendary setting.

By putting players directly into the role of a custom hero, the game shifts the narrative focus away from established characters and toward a more personal adventure; one shaped by your choices, combat style and the companions you build relationships with along the way.

With its July 2026 release date confirmed, players won’t have to wait too long before stepping into Aincrad once again.

Just remember one thing: in this world, every battle matters.
