efootball – embracing the World Cup hype

As the football world turns its attention to the biggest international tournament of the summer in the form of the World Cup, eFootball is getting in on the action with a major in-game International Cup celebration packed with free rewards, special events and some huge names.

Available now across Xbox, PlayStation, PC and mobile devices, Konami’s free-to-play football game is rolling out a global campaign running through to July 23rd, giving players the chance to strengthen their Dream Teams with legendary stars, exclusive rewards and tournament-inspired challenges.

At A Glance

  • New eFootball summer campaign runs from June 4th to July 23rd
  • Available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and mobile
  • Free Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal available for players who log in
  • International Cup 2026 event lets players compete with national teams
  • New Player of the Day cards arrive from June 13th
  • Friend invitation campaign rewards players with Epic Steven Gerrard

Free Football Icons For Everyone

Few football games hand out stars quite as freely as eFootball is doing this summer.

Simply logging into the game during the campaign period will reward players with special versions of both Lionel Messi and Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal. Additional rewards include eFootball Coins and Selection Contracts, allowing players to recruit more top-tier talent from the Argentinian and Spanish national teams.

But that’s not the main event, for the headline in-game act arrives in the form of the International Cup 2026.

Inspired by this year’s global football spectacle, the mode allows players to select their favourite national side and guide them through group-stage fixtures before progressing into knockout football. The goal is simple: survive the tournament and lift the trophy. For many players, it should provide a welcome change of pace from the usual Dream Team grind while tapping into the excitement surrounding the real-world competition.

New Stars Will Emerge Throughout The Tournament

Konami is also introducing a fresh way to celebrate standout performances from the summer’s biggest matches.

Beginning on June 13th, the new Player of the Day programme will highlight footballers who have delivered memorable moments during the tournament. Those players will then become available as special featured cards inside eFootball, giving fans the chance to bring the latest real-world heroes into their squads.

And those who invite friends into eFootball can unlock a range of rewards, while invited players can earn additional eFootball Coins by completing specific objectives. Friend Matches also come with a particularly attractive incentive, as participants can earn an Epic version of former England captain Steven Gerrard.

For those who prefer playing with friends rather than climbing online divisions, it’s another welcome reason to jump in.

A Busy Summer For eFootball

While football fans debate what might happen in the real-world tournament, eFootball is making sure players have plenty to do on the virtual pitch. With free versions of Messi and Yamal available, new featured players arriving throughout the campaign, and the International Cup 2026 offering a fresh tournament experience, there’s plenty of incentive to return to the game over the coming weeks.

The latest eFootball campaign is available now and runs until July 23rd across Xbox (download the game from the Xbox Store), PlayStation, PC and mobile platforms.
