There can be a real joy found in playing the Hidden Object masterpieces that come out of the Artifex Mundi stable. With intrigue, mystery and delights at every turn, it’s these games which are well known for dragging gamers in. And whilst there’s a huge amount of Artifex titles available already, with the release of Endless Fables: Shadow Within, we find them building out that library even more.

Available to purchase and download on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S right now – with full optimisation on X|S for good measure – Endless Fables: Shadow Within hits the Xbox Store with a £12.49 price tag in tow, along with a free trial for anyone who wants to dip their toes into the magic it could possibly bring.

Honestly, if you’ve not yet played an Artifex Mundi game, then you need to get that changed right now. And Endless Fables: Shadow Within could be as good a place to start as any.

It follows the life and times of a famous anthropologist, one Pamela Cavendish, as she heads back home. However her best friend Hans has seemingly been captured and so old Pam needs to sort things out, and put things right. What plays out from there is anyone’s guess, but having mastered all the previous Artifex titles that have hit Xbox, we’re going to go out on a limb and say that the story will have more than a few twists and turns. It’s probably going to verge on the outright weird at times in fact.

What you can be sure of though is Endless Fables: Shadow Within will be able to take you to locations you could only dream of. 31 are promised this time around, with 23 puzzles to solve whilst there. With a bonus adventure in hand and the promise of Artifex’s biggest mystery yet, we’re well up for a trip to the Endless Fables. Are you?

What’s also pretty nice is that Endless Fables: Shadow Within is also included in the new Imaginary Realms Bundle which throws together this with My Brother Rabbit and Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep. If you’ve not played those two titles, it’s probably worth a consideration.

As always, the Xbox Store will sort you out with some Series X|S optimisation available. And if you want to know more, our full review of Endless Fables: Shadow Within will be up and live in the coming days.

Game Description:

All their childhood, Pamela and Hans’ sister – Agatha – tried to convince adults about what had happened to Hans, but unfortunately terrifying truth was taken for childish imagination and silly nightmares. In time, both friends began to doubt their own memory and accepted the thought that Hans was dead. That is, until Pamela receives a letter from Agatha. Friend convinces Pamela, that Hans managed to contact her recently. Without hesitation, Miss Cavendish returns to the town of Mittenwald to finally close the most painful chapter of her life. And so, in a quiet town where nothing bad has happened for years, she will encounter a mystery in which dreams mingle with reality. Every step she takes will be watched by a shadow behind the mirror. Will she get to the nightmare realm where Hans is still fighting for his life? Will she be able to stop the mysterious figure hidden in the shadows? And will she risk everything in the fight for the safety of her friends?

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
