Spellcaster University – out now on console

Grab your robes and ready your magic decks for Spellcaster University is open for business on console.

The charming and successful PC wizard school management simulator, has officially launched today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch for ÂŁ16.74.

Playing out as a magical management sim, it invites you to build and run the academy of your dreams (or nightmares!).

Developed by the French indie team at Sneaky Yak Studio and brought to consoles by Red Art Games (who also handled publishing duties), Spellcaster University puts you in the esteemed (and often chaotic) role of headmaster.

Craft Your Curriculum with Cards

What sets Spellcaster University apart is its original magic deck mechanic. You don’t just build rooms; you draw them from decks representing different schools of magic. This ensures each playthrough feels unique:

  • Arcane Deck: Access rooms defying reality and powerful artifacts.
  • Light Deck: Focus on student and teacher well-being.
  • Nature Deck: Welcome magical beasts (dragons, pegasi!) onto campus.
  • Alchemy Deck: Boost the production of mana and potions.
  • Shadow Deck: Teach real discipline (perhaps involving a dungeon?) and dabble in necromancy or demonology.

Will you create a harmonious haven for druids and shamans, or a forbidding academy of black magic? The choice is yours!

More Than Just Magic Lessons

Running a magic school isn’t all fun and potions. You’ll need to:

  • Manage Your Budget: Keep the coffers full while expanding your facilities.
  • Recruit Staff: Hire teachers with the right skills (and maybe overlook some quirks).
  • Select Students: Pay attention to personality, alignment, and wealth – each trait matters! Discover their potential destinies (archmage or humble peasant?) for bonuses.
  • Ensure Well-being (or Discipline): Build refectories, dorms, and rest rooms… or perhaps that dungeon mentioned earlier. Choose school rules regarding meals, punishments, and fees.
  • Interact with Factions: Negotiate with the Adventurers Guild, plead with the King, discuss shamanism with Orcs, threaten the Dark Lord, placate the staff, and even lie to witch hunters. Every choice has consequences!
  • Survive Threats: Fend off ruthless orc attacks and navigate the bureaucracy of education authorities. Flee the encroaching Darkness by building in unique, isolated environments.

Console Class is in Session

This console release isn’t just a simple port. Red Art Games has ensured it includes all content and updates from the successful PC version, along with features tailored for console play. In all, the key features are…

  • Unique Deck Building Mechanic: Construct your university using magic cards for varied playthroughs.
  • Deep Management Simulation: Manage students, staff, budget, curriculum, facilities, and school rules.
  • Faction Interaction: Navigate complex relationships with various external groups.
  • Consequential Choices: Your decisions shape the school and its future.
  • Defend Your School: Survive orc attacks and flee the encroaching Darkness.

Ready to Take Charge?

Spellcaster University offers a delightful blend of strategic management, fantasy whimsy, and unique card-based mechanics. If the idea of building your own magical academy, dealing with mischievous students, mythical creatures (including janitors!), and meddling bureaucrats appeals, then class is now in session.

It’s available right now on the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, all for around ÂŁ16.74. There’s some Very Positive reviews kicking around on Steam too.

Pick up your wand and start managing.

Spellcaster University Description

Become the director of Spellcaster University in a colorful world of heroic fantasy. Will you turn it into a black magic academy? A place in harmony with nature to train druids and shamans? Or something entirely your own?

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
