Final Fantasy XV released 848 days ago now, which is getting close to the amount of time it took from announcement to release date. But today, the final, final, FINAL, Final Fantasy XV DLC releases, this time centring around the game’s main antagonist, Ardyn Izunia.
Episode Ardyn continues the trend of previous DLCs that all focused on an individual character from the main game. Ardyn would have been part of a second batch of downloadable episodes that were also going to feature Lunafreya, Aranea and another on the main character Noctis. Dubbed ‘The Dawn of the Future’ these were cancelled late last year with only Episode Ardyn surviving the cut.
To make up for this, a prologue was released to give info prior to the DLCs release recapping certain story elements and shedding new light on the mysterious antagonist. This can be viewed below
The DLC itself will feature Ardyn as a playable character for the first time. It also introduces the Crown City of Lucis as a place to explore fully. Previously this was only available as a setting for the final boss battles.
Players will also be able to navigate the world using Ardyns shadowstep ability, a move he used frequently during the climactic final battle. As with the previous DLCs, it is expected that Ardyn will also have his own unique move set for you to utilise.
The Final Fantasy XV team will also be hosting a livestream to commemorate the DLC releasing and that will be at 3:00-4:00pm PDT. Tune in at twitch.tv/squareenix to see the celebrations. Further details about the future of Final Fantasy XV will be announced then because Square Enix have many more stories to tell in this world, even if they are not through player interaction.
