Get ready to have your world turned upside down, quite literally. LOVE ETERNAL, an unconventional horror platformer from developer brlka and publisher Ysbryd Games, will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5|4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Q4 2025.
LOVE ETERNAL promises a disquieting and beautiful journey through a mysterious, physics-defying world, where precision platforming and gravity-flipping are the keys to survival.
A Dinner Table Disappearance
The story of LOVE ETERNAL begins with a chillingly simple moment. When Maya leaves the dinner table to answer a phone call, she returns to find her family missing, her home destroyed, and her surroundings transmuted into an unfamiliar, eerie landscape reminiscent of the Iron Age.
She has been abducted by a powerful, selfish god, and must now seek a way out of this strange and unpredictable liminal space. Along the way, she will brave encounters with monstrous doppelgängers of her family and friends, and meet other victims trapped within the deity’s domain.
Walking on the Ceiling
The core gameplay of LOVE ETERNAL is built around precision platforming and a mind-bending gravity-flipping mechanic. Players must dash through the crumbling chambers of a labyrinthine castle, leaping, flipping, and strategically landing on both the floors and the ceilings of each puzzle-like room.
You will need to plan your jump arcs carefully, making use of environmental boons that trigger Maya’s ability to flip gravity in mid-air. This is not just a gimmick; it’s essential for avoiding razor-sharp spikes, shifting lasers, and other deadly obstacles that block your path to freedom.
A Word on the World’s Atmosphere
The strange world of LOVE ETERNAL is designed to be as atmospheric as it is dangerous. Players will traverse vast, desolate landscapes, from undersea caverns to uncanny, distorted copies of Maya’s suburban home, all accompanied by disquieting ambient tones that haunt the god’s domain.
“During development we put a lot of time and care into the castle’s atmosphere, creating music and ambience whose interplay expressed a sense of forlornness, and using a painterly style of pixel art to give a sense of a world much larger than the small corners you see as the player,” said Toby Alden, designer at brlka. “We’re looking forward to sharing the secrets of this time-worn realm later this year.”
This haunting, painterly nightmare offers a different kind of horror – one of desolate beauty and quiet dread. LOVE ETERNAL’s blend of surreal visuals and challenging platforming promises an atmospheric journey for those brave enough to step into its world.
