Back to the Dawn
Back to the Dawn – now on Game Pass

As it makes its way out of Steam Early Access and launches as a full 1.0 build, Spiral Up Games’ Back to the Dawn is also coming over to the world of Xbox, and onto Game Pass no less!

It’s a Zoo In There

Now available on Xbox, Game Pass and PC, Back to the Dawn is a captivating RPG in which you must orchestrate escape from a maximum security prison.

Every inmate may be an animal, but you’ll need to tame your wild side and keep a cool head if you are to see through the many hidden agendas that each prisoner and guard has going on.

Much like The Escapists, you’ll have to bide your time throughout Back to the Dawn, spending many days going through the motions, all the while planning your escape in the background.

Back to the Dawn has two unique storylines on offer, each with over 20 hours of gameplay to enjoy. Whether you play as Thomas – a weedy reporter completely enveloped in a conspiracy – or Bob, an undercover agent sent to investigate the prison system, escape is the number one priority.

A Deep, Deep RPG

With over 500,000 words of narrative interweaving throughout your gameplay, which itself involves over 100 quests, and a narrative that adapts to your decisions, Back to the Dawn is a hugely intricate RPG.

There’s a reason why Back to the Dawn has received thousands of Very Positive Steam reviews since its debut in November 2023!

Key Features

  • Uncover the Truth – Thomas the Fox is a journalist caught up in a dark conspiracy and who got thrown into a maximum-security prison for not playing ball. Working with your attorney friend on the outside, you must collect evidence to save yourself and the city from grave danger!
  • What Kind of Prisoner Will You Be? – This is an enormous prison with lots to do and many places to explore, but make sure you follow the rules, or at least try not to get caught!
    • You’ll encounter all kinds of challenges as you explore your new environment. But will you be a model prisoner and just try to keep your head down, or will you leave a trail of chaos and destruction in your wake? It’s all up to you.
  • A Colourful Cast – Meet a colorful cast of inmates in your prison, each with an interesting story to tell. You can either make them your friends or fight, bully and rob them into submission. Will you be part of a gang or a cunning lone wolf? Pick a side!
  • Open Character Growth System – Are you a tough guy who lets his fists do the talking, a thief who hides in the shadows, or perhaps a smooth talker who manipulates the scene? Develop your skills, craft tools to suit your style, and climb your way from “new fish” to “top dog.”
  • Plan Your Prison Escape – In a place built to break you, your sharpest weapon is your creativity and cunning. Every inch of Boulderton Prison might hold the key to your escape, from your prison cell to the infirmary, to the sewers and even the rooftops. Can you break free?

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
