There are many games on the market that allow one to rule over their very own kingdom, passing laws and invading enemy territories like it’s nobody’s business. Crusader Kings III is but just one of them, and is now being even more fleshed out, with the release of the Royal Court expansion.
Coming today to Xbox Series X|S and PS5 – those over in the PC empire have had access to Royal Court for over a year now – and the Royal Court expansion will unsurprisingly allow you, as king or queen, to hold your very own court, in your own personalised throne room. In a beautifully crafted 3D space, you will be able to settle petty disputes that plague your land, see families fall apart over major disturbances, and finally make decisions on the fate of those that stand before you.
Unlike modern courts, royal courts have also historically had a lighter side, and Crusader Kings III recognises this: as well as managing disputes, the Royal Court expansion also has you invite artists, thinkers and craftspeople to your throne room, to propose new projects that can be made to your ever-expanding empire, as well as gift you brand new items for your throne room.
A full list of features coming as part of the Royal Court expansion includes:
- Throne Room: Available for king and emperor characters, this is a visual representation of your royal court, reflecting all the accumulated majesty and prestige of your dynasty.
- Hold Court: Interact with vassals and courtiers as they come to you with their problems, seeking a royal judgement.
- Grandeur: Increase the quality of life at your court with fancier trappings and better food, all the better to impress your rivals and attract higher quality guests.
- Inspired People: Talented artists, craftspeople and thinkers can work on new projects, adding treasures and artifacts to your court.
- Inventory System: Commission and collect special weapons, armour, and regalia to outfit your character and boost their skills and prowess.
- Hybrid Cultures: Make the most of a multicultural realm, developing a new way of life that is specifically adapted to your population and geography.
- Cultural Divergence: Split from your traditional culture, adapting it into something new that better fits your aspirations.
Crusader King III’s Royal Court expansion makes for a nice change of scenery from the complex systems of the main game – an impressive main game, mind you, as we gave it a 4.5/5 score in our full review – and as such should be a welcome addition to any player. The Royal Court expansion is now available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC. For Xbox, you can download the expansion via the Xbox Store for ÂŁ24.99. Royal Courts will also come free to those of you with the Crusader King III: Chapter I pack for the game.
