There’s been a kidnapping in the turmoil-ridden city of Ombre in Masquerada that threatens to bring the area to a chaotic boiling point – and it is up to you to solve the mystery.
Available right now on Xbox One, Masquerada: Songs and Shadows is a game of real-time combat – where you will have to plan out your strategy and execute it with elemental attacks and combos, which inflict status effects on your foes. As you venture through the game, you will be found taking five flawed members of the Masquerada, a group who have hoarded an ancient magic, into the battlefield in an attempt to find the truth behind the kidnapping.
As you progress through the game, you will get the chance to upgrade your party through various skill trees, spell modifiers and flanking tactics to add more variety to your attacks. The three character classes each harness a different media practised in the environment and incorporates them into their combat style. For example, the roguish, assassin-like Sicario are masters of theatrical movement, and the mage-like Dirge compose symphonic subjugation. In addition, the monolithic damage-soaking war dancer Pavissiere is another class that can be used.
The lore of Masquerada: Songs and Shadows looks to be extremely in depth – with tales of ancient magic and how a rebel movement attempts to oppose the Masquerada, aristocrats of the Citte. If you want to get really stuck into a rich tactical experience on Xbox One, then it has now launched on the Xbox One Store for £15.99. PS4, Windows and Mac players have been able to pick it up for a while now.
Game Description:
Navigate the masked deceptions and deadly magic of a vividly Venetian city in this fully voiced pause-for-tactics RPG. In the turmoil-ridden Citte della Ombre, nothing holds sway except the Mascherines – masks that grant their wielders the power to channel the elements and cast destructive magic. The Mascherines have perpetuated a culture of inequality between the power-hungry guildsmen known as the Masquerada and the impoverished lower classes, the Contadani. One of Ombre’s finest sleuths, Cicero Gavar, was exiled for a crime against the state five years ago, but he is now summoned back to Ombre to solve the mysterious kidnapping of the diplomat Razitof Azrus. As other members of the Masquerada join his investigation, all having their doubts about one another within this culture of deception, their faith will be pushed to the limit as a deeper conspiracy lurks in the shadows of Ombre.
