If there’s one land that is well represented in gaming circles, it’s that of Valhalla. Aside from the obvious Assassin’s Creed tales, Valhalla is a place that frequently pops up, offering adventures and journeys like no other. It’s that land which is the focus of Song of Iron too – just as it drops onto Xbox and PC.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, Song of Iron has been created by one solo developer, yet now, after two years of later night slaving and development, the epic saga has become a reality.

Song of Iron arrives with a £16.74 price tag in tow, and should you find yourself putting up the cash will discover one hell of an adventure. It places you in the shoes of a Viking warrior, one who is looking to avenge his fallen homeland by traversing the lands ahead. Forests will be deep, caves dark and mountains high, but you’ll need to work your way through all of them in order to save your people and arrive at the Great Temple of the Gods.

Combat will be a necessity, as will exploration, but it’s the fighting that could well set Song of Iron onto the road of greatness. Swords, shields, bows and axes will all be found and utilised to the best of their capabilities.

There’s certainly no two ways about it – Song of Iron looks great. And it plays great too, just as our full review of the game on Xbox states. We urge you to give it a read whilst you wait for your download to complete.

Game Description:

Behind you lies a trail of broken helms, shattered shields. You hold the axe of a fallen foe. Worn and dented, it will suit it’s purpose. What lies ahead is still a mystery, your goal is not. To save your people you must find the Great Temple of the Gods, but do not expect a warm welcome. Prepare to be met by a world set against you. In Song of Iron, man, monster and nature itself will try to stop you. Fight through it all in this gritty adventure where combat is intense, visceral and dangerous. Use bow, axe and shield to fight back but take care, weapons can be lost, arrows will run out and shields will be broken. With the blood of your ancestors and valor regained along the way you can fight on! Explore your ancient, and mysterious homeland as you journey through forests, into caves and climb mountains as you seek vengeance. Keep your eyes peeled, danger is all around you and when a fight is too big you may need to find a subtler way to pass foes.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
