It was a year ago when Shadow Warrior 3 burst into the world, as Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital pushed a rather gorgeous looking, extremely fun, hugely sweary first person platformer to the world. Today the Definitive Edition arrives, adding in new game modes, arenas, skins and some glorious detail for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Shadow Warrior 3 focuses on Lo Wang as he goes about traversing an absolutely manic world, one full of blades and bullets as you go hacking, slashing and shooting your way to – and away from – trouble. It’s a stunner of a game that rarely puts a foot wrong, delivering some super smooth, fast flowing combat, great weapons and hugely unique enemies. We loved Shadow Warrior 3 in review, dropping a 4.5/5 score on in the process.Â
Today that game becomes Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition, optimised for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, all as existing owners receive a free update to the new glories.
The Definitive Edition of Shadow Warrior 3 promises to make things even better, adding in a new Survival Mode, New Game Plus and Hardcore Mode. There’s a Chapter Select option to help you easily gather up missed upgrades, alongside Hero Mode that brings challenging game modifiers to the table.
New modes are great and all that, but for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players, it’ll be the 60fps, or 4k 30fps options that will excite. That and PS5 haptics and controller speaker support, anyways.
There’s some serious improvements promised with the Definitive Edition of Shadow Warrior 3, all found in the following key features…
- Step Your Game Up – Available after finishing the main story, Survival Mode is a completely new game mode consisting of 3 new battle arenas providing hours of new gameplay. 3 new weapon skins will be up for grabs for those who can complete the challenge!Â
- Thanks For The Memories – The Chapter Select menu lets you go back and collect missing upgrades and relive some of Lo Wang’s most magical moments.
- Find Your Mojo – New Game Plus delivers a new way to experience the ultraviolet action of Shadow Warrior 3’s story mode. Enjoy additional challenges, rewards, and skins to give Lo-Wang that much-needed confidence boost!
- Go Hard or Go Home – The new Hardcore Difficulty offers up the most intensely punishing version of Shadow Warrior yet! Not for the faint-hearted.
- Like A Shogun – Live life on the edge in Hero Mode, a challenging modifier that shortens Lo Wang’s life to a limited number of respawns. Earn more of them by performing spectacular Finishers, but run out, and your progress is lost forever.
- Console Yourself – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X owners will be treated to tailored enhancements including PS5 Haptics & controller speaker support and re-tuned performance modes. Choose between a buttery smooth 60fps for fast-paced violence or boosted 4K visuals at 30fps for a truly cinematic experience.Â
You’ll find Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, priced up at £33.49 and included in Game Pass. It’s on PlayStation and PC too.Â
