Asdivine Knot – out now!

What happens when a devout cleric discovers that the deity he has dedicated his life to doesn’t actually exist? Well, you’ll find out sooner rather than later as that’s the rather dramatic starting point for Asdivine Knot, the latest retro-styled JRPG from KEMCO, now available across Xbox, PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Steam.

Priced at ÂŁ16.74, Asdivine Knot delivers the sort of traditional turn-based role-playing adventure KEMCO has become very familiar with, while adding plenty of systems to keep its fantasy world busy.

When Faith Turns To Fury

Verselio has spent his life serving the deity Treises. That devotion doesn’t survive the discovery that everything he believed in was built on a lie. Rather than simply accepting the revelation, Verselio sets off on a journey of rebellion, joined by a mysterious maiden, a vigilante chief and someone who rather boldly claims to be a deity themselves.

Yep, Asdivine Knot comes with a more serious story than its colourful presentation might initially suggest, with betrayal, redemption and questions surrounding faith sitting at the heart of the adventure.

Classic Battles With A Few Modern Twists

The combat sticks firmly to turn-based JRPG traditions too, but there are some interesting systems layered on top.

The shared Nexus Gauge is central to battles, requiring the party to manage a resource collectively before unleashing powerful Nexus Skills. There are also entities to summon when things get particularly nasty, while certain Nexus Skills can even trigger changes to the battle music.

Away from combat, there’s plenty to keep the party occupied. Equipment can be crafted and upgraded using gathered materials, while the game’s airship, the Whirlwind, can be customised and expanded as your adventure progresses.

And Asdivine Knot isn’t simply about marching from one battle to the next. Side quests can reveal more about your companions, crew members can be recruited for the airship, and activities such as fishing and bazaars provide some welcome distractions. There are also puzzle-filled dungeons and multiple endings influenced by the bonds you form with the game’s heroines.

For fans of traditional JRPGs, it’s a familiar checklist – but one that KEMCO and Exe Create have clearly packed with plenty to do.

Another KEMCO Adventure Awaits

If you’ve spent any amount of time exploring KEMCO’s catalogue, the basic appeal of Asdivine Knot should be immediately recognisable. We’ve covered plenty of the publisher’s retro-flavoured RPGs over the years, and this latest release once again opts for classic turn-based combat, colourful characters and a substantial fantasy adventure.

There’s also an Asdivine Knot Special Edition for ÂŁ31.74, bundling the full game with a selection of Experience, SP and Damage add-ons. The main game and the add-on content can also be purchased separately, so it’s worth checking what you’re actually picking up before spending extra.

For everyone else, the standard ÂŁ16.74 edition provides a new fantasy world to explore, a troubled hero to follow and plenty of traditional JRPG systems to get stuck into.

Asdivine Knot is out now across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Steam.
