Xbox Game Pass has already seen a number of new titles debut within its walls, with State of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves the most notable additions. Now though a new game has arrived, and there is yet again a choice to make – do you purchase it outright, or delve into the wonderful goodie-filled world of Game Pass in order to get your enjoyment?
Next Up Hero is the game in question and this dungeon crawler will see you fighting, dying and winning multiple times over as you hack, slash, and boomerang your way out of trouble, grabbing loot and collecting gear as you go.
A £15.99 price tag is attached to any outright purchase of Next Up Hero, but should you be an Xbox Game Pass subscriber will find that the game is also available in there. With a solo option or the chance to invite a friend to do some dungeon crawling with you, Next up Hero has plenty of appeal.
That is no more true than when you take the Dungeon Maker Mode into consideration as this allows all gamers to create their own dungeon before challenging the community to crawl it. If they win and take down the horrors within then they’ll get rewarded with a super rare piece of loot – should they fail then that treasure is yours!
A permadeath features runs throughout Next Up Hero so be prepared to die a lot, but should that take your fancy, then a trip to the Xbox Store for a little purchase, or dipping your toes into the wonders of the Xbox Game Pass is the way forward.

Fight. Die. Win! (And probably die some more.) Next Up Hero is a dungeon crawler featuring hand-drawn heroes that hack, slash, bongo-drum, boomerang, and jet their way through Ventures. Choose your Hero and start rolling dungeons, gearing out, and maxing your stats. If you’re feeling especially heroic, invite a friend for co-op. You’re going to need all the help you can get. Dungeon Maker Mode: Craft a savage dungeon and challenge the community to beat it. If they beat the dungeon, they get to keep a rare piece of loot. If they fail, the treasure is yours. Perma-Permadeath: Death is so permanent in Next Up Hero that your “echo” remains for the next player to raise. People die a lot in Next Up Hero, so you can resurrect up to 20 AI followers! Mixer Interactive Enabled: It’s Hero vs. Dirge powered by Mixer Interactive. Spectators can control the echo army, helping the hero survive the floor, or buff the Dirge enemies, slowing and freezing the player.
