Fight off Santa with Headbangers in Holiday Hell on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

headbangers in holiday hell

It’s been a good year for the music scene, especially that of metal, with the likes of Metal: Hellsinger delivering some serious headbanging moments. But now it’s time to really rock out – and fight off Santa as we go – with Headbangers in Holiday Hell on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

The latest to roll off the Ratalaika Games conveyor belt of cheap and cheerful weekly console releases, Headbangers in Holiday Hell looks to build on the love for music with a humorous Christmas twin-sticking roguelite.

Available to purchase and download from the relevant digital store for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S (fully optimised), PlayStation or Nintendo Switch, Headbangers in Holiday Hell was first put together by those at Vikerland and Hammer & Ravens, before being plucked and pushed by the Ratalaika Games team. And you pretty know what to expect when that Ratalaika tag is attached – cheap asking price, plenty of fun and some serious Xbox Gamerscore collecting.

We’re hopping in ahead of full review of Headbangers in Holiday Hell to express intentions that this will deliver on at least two of those fronts – it’s certainly cheap at just £5.99 (launch discount also available, dropping it down further) and it also looks like it could be a ton of fun, as gamers get the opportunity to enjoy a Christmas themed rock-out. That just leaves the achievement and Gamerscore angle – Ratalaika Games have never let us down in that regard.

But what exactly is Headbangers in Holiday Hell? Well, a twin-sticking roguelite, your task here is to take on old Santa himself, at least him and his army of minions who are a bit pissed that you aren’t getting into the Christmas spirit, refusing to purchase presents or wear Xmas jumpers, instead focusing efforts on a bit of headbanging.

Personally, that sounds like a great Christmas, but Santa thinks otherwise.

With a host of zany weapons to hand, some humour thrown in, tons of heavy metal included and the joys of procedurally generated levels keeping you busy, what’s not to like about the release of Headbangers in Holiday Hell?

We’re not sure, but will cover all the bases in full review. Until that time, get yourself over to the digital store of your choosing and nab a download. Headbangers in Holiday Hell is available from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, whilst also present and correct on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation.

Game Description:

You didn’t buy a hideous woolly jumper. You didn’t buy, gift and receive enough presents. Worst of all, you didn’t even get a Christmas tree! Now Santa Claus is sending his craziest minions to quell your non-conformist antics. Let’s introduce them to the untamed power of Heavy Metal! Headbangers in Holiday Hell is a twin stick roguelite full of heavy metal and comedy. Free your fellow Headbangers from hordes of insane Christmas critters, and then it’s time to take on Santa Claus himself!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
