The official keyart for A Clareira as the game releases on Xbox and PC
Play as a little cloud in A Clareira on Xbox

Sometimes the hero of the story isn’t a warrior or a spaceship pilot – sometimes it’s a cloud. As is the case in A Clareira.

A Clareira is a colourful new shoot ’em up that places players in control of a brave little rain cloud on a mission to protect Brazil’s ecosystems from devastating wildfires. It kinda reminds us of the brilliant Rain On Your Parade. Ish.

Developed by IceHead Studio and published by Bad Minions and Little Giant, A Clareira arrives on Xbox Series X|S (Optimised), Xbox One and Windows PC, launching as three separate versions on the Xbox Store.

And at a price of £4.19, it offers an accessible arcade-style experience with a surprisingly thoughtful environmental theme.

In short: grab your raindrops, because the forest needs saving.

Meet Claudinho – The Cloud With A Mission

At the centre of A Clareira is Claudinho, a small but determined cloud whose job is to battle raging wildfires threatening some of Brazil’s most important ecosystems.

Gameplay unfolds as a 2D shoot ’em up, but instead of blasting enemy ships or alien invaders, players fire raindrops across the screen to extinguish spreading flames and protect the natural world.

As you progress through increasingly demanding stages, the challenge ramps up with new hazards, faster threats and powerful bosses that require quick reflexes and clever use of power-ups.

Exploring Brazil’s Unique Ecosystems

One of the most distinctive aspects of A Clareira is its setting.

The adventure unfolds across three unique Brazilian biomes, each inspired by real environments. You’ll get to take in the Amazon Rainforest, some Pantanal wetlands and the Cerrado savanna.

And as you may expect to hear, each biome introduces its own visual style, obstacles and challenges, while the game weaves in environmental facts and educational elements designed to raise awareness about these important ecosystems.

Power-Ups And Boss Battles

Like any good arcade shooter, A Clareira keeps things exciting with a range of upgrades and abilities.

Throughout each level, players can collect power-ups that dramatically change the way Claudinho fights the flames. These include:

  • Freezing shots to slow threats
  • Protective bubble shields
  • Multi-shot rain attacks
  • Additional upgrades that boost your firefighting capabilities

And of course, no shoot ’em up would be complete without boss battles. As players progress, powerful fire-based enemies appear, demanding careful timing and strategic use of your abilities.

Another Release From Little Giant

Publisher Little Giant has been active on Xbox recently, including the release of Sokobear Cave, which we reviewed with a 3.5/5 score, noting: “Sokobear Cave arrives at the party with a sackful of ideas… more than enough to separate Sokobear from the sokocrowds.

Can One Little Cloud Save The Forest?

Available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC, A Clareira delivers a refreshing twist on the classic shoot ’em up formula. It’s colourful, accessible and carries an environmental message at its heart, proving that sometimes even the smallest hero can make the biggest difference.

And in this case, that hero happens to be a cloud with very good aim.

Decide on which version you wish to download from the Xbox Store – Xbox Series X|S Optimised, Xbox One, or Windows PC.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
