Now this is how you make a sequel. Don’t rest on your laurels and churn out yet another iteration: take your successful cult hit, fast forward to 2042, and set it in a war-torn, apocalyptic America of gangs, rebellion and robotic enslavery. Are you listening FIFA? This is what the people want! Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! brings all the punctuation it can to Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC today, so go get.

Before we dive into that brilliant setup, we should cover what a Cook, Serve, Delicious game is for the uninitiated. At its core, this is a meal preparation game, with customers arriving to request items from your menu. You have full control of the kitchen, so you are grabbing ingredients, stepping through the entire recipe and then serving them up, hopefully with plenty of time to spare. What makes the series so brilliant is that the actions are largely one-to-one, with you performing the chopping, sieving and more with your controller like a veritable cooking mama.

Let’s get back to that premise. In 2042, your successful restaurant has exploded, and you’re forced to restart the business from the back of a street food truck. This takes you into the last place you want to be: the rubble-strewn streets of wasteland America. You’ll be prepping your menu and then stopping at some dingey backwater towns, all in the hope of making a bottlecap or two (we assume).

It seems that the meal-making is just the half of it, as there are story events and twists that frame everything. We can’t wait to see where Vertigo Gaming takes the series in Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?!, as we were already smitten before it went into Fallout territory. Honestly, we hope it does so well that we get a fourth, as there aren’t many places it can go next (Space? Time-travel? Bollywood?).

Features include:

  • Play through the campaign via single player or with a friend in local co-op (with the ability to change on the fly).
  • Upgrade your food truck with dozens of gameplay-affecting modules!
  • Expand your food catalog with over two hundred foods!
  • Decorate your food truck with dozens of trinkets that span the US!
  • Tons of accessibility features that allow you to play the most comfortably you’d like, including motion settings, flashing/strobe settings, audio and colorblind features, and tons more.
  • Over a hundred hours of gameplay spanning over 380 levels!
  • An amazing original soundtrack by award-winning composer Jonathan Geer.

Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! launches today on Xbox One for £16.74. It’s also making a meal of it on PS4, Switch and PC via Steam. The review is incoming, but you might want to savour the surprise and buy it now.
