The side-scrolling beat ‘em ups genre is going through a very healthy renaissance at the moment. Not only have we recently had Streets of Rage 4, but before that we had Raging Justice and more. Today sees another love letter to the genre released as Final Vendetta lands on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
A gang known as Syndic8 have kidnapped the sister of Claire Sparks. Claire – herself a bit of a martial arts brawler – also happens to live with a pro-wrestler called Miller T. Williams and bare-knuckle fighter Duke Sancho. This trio of absolute muscle decide to take matters into their own hands to bring back Claire’s sister.
Final Vendetta takes place on the streets of London, but fans of the genre will feel right at home with the retro-inspired visuals. The music is all new though, featuring exclusive tracks from Utah Saints, Featurecast and Krafty Kuts.
Across its four game modes, Final Vendetta is fully playable with two players. Firstly, there is the Arcade mode, the main mode. There is also Boss Rush and Survival modes where you face-off against the main game’s bosses or never-ending waves of enemies respectively. But if you fancy something more competitive over co-operative, there is Versus mode when you can claim bragging rights.

Claire Sparks, a student and martial arts expert, who has become unwillingly embroiled in the rescue of her sister. Duke Sancho is a quick-witted, bare-knuckle fighter from London, earning his nickname after a brawl in the Duke of Wellington pub. Not forgetting the towering figure of Miller T. Williams; a Canadian ex-pro wrestler, controversially removed from competitions for use of excessive force. Together the three friends must battle their way through the streets of London on a dangerous journey to bring back Claire’s sister! The gameplay mechanics are sure to go down well with fans of the genre, giving players a vast array of moves and the ability to block, run, dodge, strike downed opponents, and even perform juggle combos!
