Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection – out now

Prepare for a flawless victory, as the ultimate historical compilation of Mortal Kombat’s groundbreaking early years has just executed a perfect launch onto consoles and PC in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.

A masterpiece of digital restoration from Digital Eclipse and Atari is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch for £41.74.

This isn’t just a simple bundle of ROMs; it’s a fully interactive documentary and a comprehensive library of the franchise’s most iconic titles, all enhanced with modern features.

A Groundbreaking Interactive Documentary

More than just a collection of games, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is a playable piece of video game history. Digital Eclipse, renowned for their work on The Making of Karateka, has included an interactive documentary that chronicles the series’ groundbreaking history.

It explores how Mortal Kombat changed the way society perceived video games by using digitized humans in an over-the-top, martial-arts fighter.

The documentary features rare concept art, archival video footage, and exclusive new and vintage interviews with the original creators, including Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, and John Vogel, all retelling the compelling origin stories of the franchise.

The Klassics, Enhanced

This collection is a comprehensive library of the franchise’s early titles, bringing together arcade, console, and handheld versions in one place:

  • Mortal Kombat (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear)
  • Mortal Kombat II (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X)
  • Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis)
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade, WaveNet Arcade, SNES)
  • Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PlayStation)
  • Mortal Kombat 4 (Arcade)
  • Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (PlayStation)
  • Mortal Kombat Special Forces (PlayStation)
  • Mortal Kombat Advance (Game Boy Advance)
  • Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (Game Boy Advance)
  • Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition (Game Boy Advance)

Modern Features and Online Play

Each title in the collection has been enhanced with a variety of optional, quality-of-life features, such as a Rewind function, on-screen move lists, a Trainer mode to help you perfect your kombos, and even a Fatality Trainer to master those legendary finishing moves.

Crucially, many of the arcade and console editions also include online multiplayer support with rollback netcode, ensuring a smooth, competitive experience.

A Long-Lost Treasure Resurrected

For hardcore fans, this collection includes a true holy grail. For the first time ever, Digital Eclipse has emulated and preserved the WaveNet edition of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

This version hasn’t been playable anywhere since 1997 and was the only arcade release to feature Noob Saibot as a selectable character!

A Kollection We’ve Been Waiting For

We’ve been anticipating this one since it was first announced. Back in June, we reported to “Get Over Here!” as the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection was announced. Now, that day has finally arrived.

Mortal Kombat has always pushed boundaries and redefined what video games can be, and with the launch of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection today, we’re thrilled to bring all the iconic titles together in one place, enhanced for today’s players,” said Mike Mika, Studio Head at Digital Eclipse. “This collection isn’t just about revisiting classic games – it’s a celebration of the bold creativity and lasting impact that made Mortal Kombat a cultural phenomenon. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection offers an immersive look at the origins and evolution of a franchise that continues to shape gaming history.

Your Test of Might

Here’s what you can expect from this ultimate compilation:

  • A Massive Kollection of 11 Klassic Titles: Including all their major platform variations (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Handhelds, etc.).

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
