Lord of the Click 5
Lord of the Click 5 – now on Xbox

The battle for the kingdom rages on, and the clicker monarch is back on the throne! Lord of the Click 5, the latest instalment in the ongoing 2D autobattler series, has launched on Xbox.

Developed by HugePixel and published by Desert Water Games, this new entry promises unique challenges, deep strategy (apparently!), and a sprinkle of player agency for a price expected to be around the usual £4.19 mark for the series.

Once again, the kingdom is plunging into darkness, and as the wise king, it’s your duty to save it. But this time, there’s a magical new twist to the familiar troop placement and auto-battling.

More Than Just Watching? New Spell-Casting!

While the core gameplay of Lord of the Click 5 still revolves around strategically placing your troops and then pressing “Play” to watch the majestic (and often surprising) isometric battles unfold, there’s a significant new addition. Now, everything isn’t entirely out of your hands once the fighting starts.

Players can collect crystals during the fray and then actively use these to unleash powerful spells. Fancy calling down tornadoes or striking enemies with devastating lightning to turn the tide of battle? Now you can!

This direct intervention aims to add a layer of “deep strategy” and requires “instant decisions on the battlefield,” potentially addressing some of the more passive elements of previous titles.

Each new level will, of course, bring more dangerous enemies and insidious bosses to test your newly empowered command. Victories will reward you with stars, which can be used to strengthen your army and unlock new combat abilities.

The Clicker Legacy: Our Thoughts on Past Battles

The Lord of the Click series has been a consistent presence on the Xbox Store, with this being the fifth entry. We’ve covered the launches of Lord of the Click (the first!), Lord of the Click III, and Lord of the Click IV previously.

Our most in-depth look came with Lord of the Click II, which we awarded a 2.5/5 score. In that review, we found it to be an “absolutely mindless time killer,” but also noted:

There’s no requirement of skill, no need to worry about tactics or strategy and certainly nothing that will cause concern to anyone who is familiar with a controller. It really is a waste of time. But then, perhaps that’s the point…“.

The introduction of active spell-casting in Lord of the Click 5 certainly piques our interest – could this be the strategic depth the series has been looking for?

Key Features of the Fifth Reign

  • Return as the wise king to battle a new darkness threatening your kingdom.
  • Engage in 2D autobattler gameplay where you strategically place troops and then watch the conflict unfold.
  • New! Actively influence battles by collecting crystals and unleashing powerful spells like tornadoes and lightning.
  • Face increasingly difficult levels populated with more dangerous enemies and insidious bosses.
  • Earn stars from victories to strengthen your army and unlock new combat abilities for your units.

Will the Fifth Click Be the Charm?

Lord of the Click 5 arrives promising a familiar autobattling loop with a potentially game-changing new spell-casting mechanic. Will this addition elevate the series beyond a simple “mindless time killer”? Only time, and a few well-placed tornadoes, will tell.

It’s available right now on the Xbox Store for Xbxo Series X|S, priced at £4.19. There’s an Xbox One edition too (same price) as well as a Bundle, bringing both packs together for £8.39.

Lord of the Click 5 Description

“Lord of the Click 5” continues the legendary clicker series, offering unique challenges, deep strategy and exciting gameplay. As a wise king, you once again enter the battle to save the kingdom, which is plunging into darkness.
