foregone xbox one

Moments like Foregone make this games journalism lark a real joy. It’s a game that has come out of absolutely nowhere, whacking us round the face with its originality and pure style. We hadn’t heard too much about Foregone, but one look at the trailer and you can see its class. So much of that comes from its animation. The way the character moves reminds of Another World and Prince of Persia, and in recent times Dead Cells. It’s wonderfully slick, and has immediately put it to the top of our backlog.

Foregone is out today on Xbox One and is also available on Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

It isn’t necessarily doing anything new from a gameplay or story perspective, but that’s okay. Foregone is an action-platformer, again in a similar vein to Dead Cells, but with an arsenal of guns and swords to tear through enemies and bewildering bosses. The plot takes the ‘save the world from mass annihilation’ route, but effectively it’s all a backdrop for the astonishing action set pieces and character animations to play out.

Foregone has received some industry hype through Pax East, West and South, winning Hidden Gems and Official Selections from each. Montreal International Game Summit also slapped a ‘Best Music’ on it, so it looks like it might be an audio-visual dish.

Features include:

  • Satisfying hybrid of action-platformer and looter
  • Narrative-driven gameplay
  • Collect an arsenal of legendary weapons
  • Challenging enemies and intense boss fights
  • Branching skill tree with customizable abilities
  • Fluid 3D-to-2D pixel art & animation

It’s by no means a Foregone-conclusion that this will get a good score, but expect a TheXboxHub review in the coming days to give you the full dress-down.

Edit: Our review of Foregone on Xbox One is now live.

Foregone is out today on Xbox One for £24.99. Alternately, you might choose to invest in the Switch and PS4 versions.

Game Description:

Years after a devastating war, the city of Calagan is once again besieged by an all-corrupting force known as the Harrow. As the city’s strongest super-soldier, it’s up to you to investigate the Harrow’s origins and prevent its reanimated minions from destroying your home. But the Harrow isn’t just reviving the dead – it’s dredging up memories better left forgotten. Foregone is a fast and fluid 2D action-platformer packed with legendary loot and stunning pixel art. Collect an arsenal of powerful weapons and upgradeable skills, then use them to shoot and slash your way through hand-crafted pixel environments hiding a treasure trove of secrets. Unravel a compelling story of regret and conspiracy as you slice your way through hordes of enemies and carry out your mission to save the city of Calagan from total annihilation.
