Forza Horizon Retrospectives

These retrospectives revisit the Forza Horizon series years after release, looking back at the open-world racing adventures that helped define Xbox across multiple generations.

Looking Back to 2016 and the upside-down action of Forza Horizon 3

Before anyone complains, I know the racing action wasn’t really upside-down (although when I was racing, all bets were off) but that was just a reference to the location of Forza Horizon 3, which was Australia. Coming from Playground Games, the same as the others in the series, and with a country as varied as Australia to go at, the scene was set for a truly great experience.

Looking back to 2015 and the promotional tie-in Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious

Ridiculously fast cars, massive explosions, and badass characters; these three things are synonymous with the Fast & Furious film franchise. Each and every instalment that releases tries to raise the bar from the previous offering, usually featuring even more insane stunts and blockbuster movie stars than before – adding the likes of The Rock, Charlize Theron, and Jason Statham. Taking into account how huge the franchise has become over the years, it’s no surprise that Microsoft Studios wanted a piece of the action. Thus, the standalone expansion Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious came to fruition in 2015.

Forza Horizon Reviews

These reviews revisit our original coverage of the Forza Horizon series, offering a snapshot of how each game felt when it first arrived on Xbox.

Forza Horizon 6 Review

The real beauty of Forza Horizon 6 is in how the Japanese world feels alive, and how rewarding it is to just go bimbling about. FH6 was always going to be an easy sell, and a reskinned FH5 would probably have sufficed, but Playground Games have smashed it out of the park. The world is great, the cars are amazing, and the racing action, whether on the streets, on the track, or in the wilds, is second to none.

Forza Horizon 5 Rally Adventure Review

Forza Horizon 5 Rally Adventure is a lot of fun, but there are just minor annoyances that stop it being a stone cold classic.

Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels Review

Apart from little issues that you can learn to drive around, Hot Wheels is a worthy addition to the greatness that is Forza Horizon 5.

Forza Horizon 5 Review

In conclusion, play Forza Horizon 5. There has never been a better looking game, and it plays like an absolute dream. It’s full of cars, full of challenge, full of glorious visuals and played out across a world like no other.

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions Review

Forza Horizon 4 has been one of the most successful entries into Playground Games' franchise, and it’s a game that I have enjoyed playing for many, many hours. The reveal of the new LEGO based DLC at E3 2019 by Microsoft certainly made me sit up and take notice, with the promise of Forza Horizons go anywhere playstyle mixed with the joyous plastic bricked up nature of LEGO. In fact, the trailer was enough for me to immediately put my interest gathering hand up when it came to checking out this DLC, and, at the risk of spoiling things, boy was I glad I did.

Forza Horizon 4 Review

Ah yes, it’s finally here; the time the many racers that have graced our screens throughout the year step aside for the king of them all. Forza is back once more to put pedal to the metal and leave the competition trailing.

Forza Horizon 3 Blizzard Mountain DLC Review

The question surrounding the amount of content in Forza Horizon 3 has never been in doubt. Multiple races, bucket lists, drift events, challenges, championships, hidden barn finds, smashable bonus boards and plenty more are all in place, bringing Xbox and PC racing fans hundreds of hours of entertainment. Throw in a hugely comprehensive online side and chances are you may never need to play another game this year. But even with all those options, more content is always appreciated and whilst the stunning scenery and wild outback of Australia has been an absolute delight to race around, there were always a few things missing: snow, ice and blizzards.

Forza Horizon 3 Review

I always thought Forza Horizon 2 was the closest a racing game was ever going to get to perfection. I was wrong. Forza Horizon 3 is.

Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious Review

The car is very much the star in both Forza Horizon 2 and Furious 7, so the combination of the current leading videogame racer and the latest vehicular based movie should see a standalone game that appeals to not just gamers, but film fans, motorsport lovers and adrenaline junkies too.

Forza Horizon 2 Storm Island DLC Review

When you’ve already got one of the best racing games of all time under your belt, the chance to create some unique DLC must be a huge draw. Thankfully Turn 10 and Playground Games have done just that with the, frankly superb, Forza Horizon 2 Storm Island content.

Forza Horizon 2 Review

Not content with being the premier track based racer on Xbox, the Forza series is going for the jugular of every other race game. But will Forza Horizon 2 become a jack of all or will it leave the competition trailing in its dust?

Forza Motorsport

Forza Motorsport established the foundations of the franchise through its focus on precision driving, realistic handling, and car culture. These features, reviews, and retrospectives revisit the series that helped shape modern console racing games.

Forza Motorsport Review

There is so much to love about Forza Motorsport, that it is an easy sell. The game looks, races and - most importantly - feels absolutely bang on, and while I don’t love the new upgrade system, it’s something to get used to.

Is Forza Motorsport on Xbox, Game Pass and PC the greatest racing game ever created?

Available right now on Xbox Series X|S and PC is Forza Motorsport. From the usual Turn 10 Studios and Xbox Game Studios teams, this stops the sequential numbering of the series to run a standard name. But this is far from a standard racer.

Looking back to 2014 and Forza Motorsport 5 Racing GOTY Edition

When it was time for Forza 5 to rock on up to the track, we were just entering the third generation of Xbox consoles, and to show off all that extra horsepower that would come inside the Xbox One, they wanted a flagship title that could truly showcase just what miracles the next generation could perform. And what better title than Microsoft’s beloved racer!

Forza Motorsport 7 Review

Forza Motorsport has a long and storied history on the Xbox. I myself have been playing since 2009, way back to the days of Forza 2, and as a series it has provided me with many happy hours of racing and painting. The series has got increasingly shiny as it’s gone on, with each iteration improving on the graphics of its predecessor. But now we come to Forza 7 and it boasting on the cover about being in 4K and enhanced for the Xbox One X - the question I guess is how good does it look today?

Forza Motorsport 6 Review

You can always tell when something is going to be a little special just by the way a title is slowly introduced. Forza has that in bucketloads and from the very first foray down the streets of Rio De Janerio in the cover star - the 2017 Ford GT, you’ll be wowed by sights and sounds like very little else currently available on any console.

Why Forza Still Matters

While Motorsport helped establish the franchise, it’s Forza Horizon that transformed it into something far broader than a traditional racing series. By combining festival culture, exploration, accessibility, and spectacular locations, Horizon helped redefine what open-world racing games could be - and its influence can still be seen across the genre today.
