Forza Horizon 5 Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges Guide Series 17 – Winter

-

Winter is coming, as Ned Stark famously once said, but instead of death, what awaits us in Mexico for Series 17 Winter and Forza Horizon 5 is a lot more fun!

We are continuing on with the Japanese Automotive theme in Series 17 of the Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges, and as such have a wide variety of JDM related metal to look forward to. So, while winter in Mexico is the dry season, we should probably make the most of the good conditions and get down to business, right?

Part 1: #Forzathon Weekly Challenge – Spirited Away

As well as being a cunning pun on the name of a very good Studio Ghibli film, this title also refers to the subject of this week’s challenge.

The car in question is the Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type-A, which is in with a good shout as the longest car name in the game. These cars are famous for having a rotary engine, instead of the traditional piston type, and so they have a unique sound and rev insanely high, as well as giving ridiculous power outputs from very small displacements.

Grab one, if you don’t have one already, and they will set you back 30,000 credits at the Autoshow.

Chapter 1 – That’s the Point

Simply own the car, and then drive the car. Even I can manage that!

Chapter 2 – In Short Supply

Apparently, only 1500 of these cars were ever built, making them rare. To celebrate this rarity, take it to a Danger Sign and throw it off. Makes perfect sense to me.

Simply earn six stars at Danger Signs to complete this step. I tuned mine a tad to make this and the next step a little easier, and the share code is : 333240850.

Chapter 3 – A Fond Farewell

As this was the last RX-7 ever made, we need to celebrate it in style by winning a Street Race. The tune from above should see you right. Pick your best track and let it go!

Chapter 4 – Going Sideways

Now this is more like it!

Given that the FD RX-7 has a starring role in the Initial D anime, it seems fitting that we have to score six stars at drift zones. I tuned mine up again, to give this share code : 265117632.

This responds quite well to having its neck wrung, so keep relining it through the zone you choose.

Painting the car yellow and writing “RedSuns” on it is completely optional.

And that is the weekly challenge complete, enjoy the 5 points towards this week’s prize cars.

Part 2:  Challenges

Series 17 Winter sees a bit of racing, in the shape of The Trial and two championships, but to make up for it, there are also two Eventlabs to try out.

Let’s hope they are better than last week’s, eh? Although I wouldn’t hold my breath…

The Trial – Circuit Control

I suspect The Trial is called this because it is such a challenge finding a team of people who want to race, not screw over their team mates by punting them into walls. It is nothing to do with the difficulty of the actual racing!

Still, should you manage to avoid the worst that the Forza Horizon community has to offer, what can you expect? Well, it is a pretty pedestrian set of cars this week, with Japanese and B Class 700 being the restrictions. As the race is largely on road, I went with a Civic Type R from 2007, share code is: 122431574.

The prize for winning is a Mazda RX-7 from 1990.

Eventlab 1 – VUUKUU Presents – VUUKUU Imperial Circuit

The same limitation as the above event makes me suggest the same car, to be honest. You guys do do these events in order, right?

This one is actually pretty fun, a time trial type event and the course actually flows nicely for a change. Best one I’ve played so far!

As there is no real competition playing solo, just potter around and complete the course. A Super Wheelspin can be yours if you do.

Evenlab 2 – Treflop Presents – Punake Hill Touge

Again, same challenge, same car. No point in spending your hard earned credits unnecessarily, eh?

This course is a little better than found in Series 17 Autumn, but it is very easy to get beached if you try to cut a corner, so be careful.

Prize this time is a Tuning hoodie. Awesome.

PR Stunt – Speed Trap – Baja California

For this event, we need to climb aboard an S2 Class 998 car, and fly past the offroad speed trap faster than 165 mph. I went with a BMW X5M Forza Edition, with offroad tyres, and the share code is : 519084427.

Approaching from the north, there are some rocks to avoid but it is very doable.

Another Super Wheelspin to add to the collection if you manage it.

PR Stunt – Drift Zone – Costera

A Drift Zone to beat just begs to be tackled with a Japanese car, doesn’t it?

The target is 100,000 drift points, and the surface is made up of dirt, so it may be a bit tricky. I went with a Nissan GT-R, tuned for offroad grip, and the share code is: 870206076.

You do have to poke it with a stick to get it sliding, but once it is, it is pretty easy to control.

A Super wheelspin is the reward, just for a change.

Seasonal Championship – Honda Pressure

That noise you can hear is Freddie Mercury spinning in his grave!

However, for this event, we need to use a Honda, tuned up to B Class 700. As this is a Street Scene kind of event, I decided to use the same Civic Type R as for the Trial. The model is 2007, and the share code is: 122431574.

For winning best two out of three in a convoy, or for winning outright solo, the prize is an Acura Integra.

Seasonal Championship – Rally Heroes

Another championship to complete, and this time it is using C Class 600 Japanese Retro Rally vehicles. I went with a Celica, the GT-Four from 1994, as you might expect, and the share code is : 861264673.

Coming out on top at the end of the championship will get us a Subaru BRZ.

Part 3: Other Challenges

The challenges this week aren’t too onerous, except for the Eliminator of course, and should be pretty easy to tick off. Let’s check out what’s in store for us, shall we?

Photo Challenge -#RedVsBlue

We need to take a Subaru or a Mitsubishi car to Aerodrome En La Selva, find some stone lanterns, which is usually a challenge in and of itself, and take a photo.

These are near a control tower, by the front of the big plane parked on the verge.

I’ll include the location and my artistic attempts below. We get a Halo Shield Recharge horn for our trouble.

Collectibles – Purfect.

While we are at the Aerodromo for the photo, we need to have a little look about the place for some Lucky Cat collectibles. We have to find and drive into eight of them, in order to win a Super Wheelspin.

I’ll include a photo of the things we are trying to find below.

The Eliminator

We know what to do here by now, yeah? Stay alive in the Eliminator long enough to sneak into the Top 30, and then you might as well try to win it! Whether this is by skulking around in the undergrowth or taking the battle to the other drivers, it’s your choice.

For managing to survive long enough, we will receive a Nissan Titan.

Horizon Tour – Co-op Championship

The Tour is a lot of fun, seeing five human players racing against five AI Driverbots, and engaging in a little light cross country racing between events. We simply need to complete a Tour to be successful here.

I can’t recommend a car as it is always a different class, but just enjoy yourselves.

Prize? Nope, only three points towards this week’s cars.

Part 4: Hot Wheels Events

If you fancy a little extra challenge, and you have reached the Elite rank in the Hot Wheels expansion, then Playground have got you covered.

PR Stunt – Danger Sign – Forest Escape

Take an S2 Class 998 car, and attempt to fly more than 350m off the end of a ramp.

As the category is anything goes, I used my favourite Koenigsegg, the Agera, and the share code is : 409466764.

Another Super Wheelspin is your prize.

Seasonal Championship – Wheely Cool

Take a Japanese car, tune it to B Class 700, and win some races in the Hot Wheels park. As this is classed as an offroad race, I went with an Evo, the VIII MR, and the share code is : 141172186.

The prize for emerging on top is a Mitsubishi GTO.

And that, as they say, is pretty much your lot for the Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges for Series 17 Winter. Unless of course you haven’t yet completed the two Monthly Rivals events that have been on offer for a couple of weeks already. If you have still to tick those boxes, just nail a clean lap around each circuit and you’ll find some extra points dropping into your weekly wallet.

Those points, along with the ones you’ve earnt in the other events, will see you right in terms of new cars. We know that the Series 17 rewards come in the form of the Nissan GTR ’20 for 80pts and the Subaru 22B for 160pts, but Winter itself also throws out the Galant VR04 and Toyota AT37 for good measure. You should have just about enough to collect those up if you’ve been following our guides to Series 17 so far. The series concludes with Spring next week, in which you’ll discover the chance to get behind the wheel of the Sports 800 ’65 and Nissan Sentra.

To complete the Forza Horizon 5 Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges for Series 17 – Winter – or to just enjoy the game for what it is – you’ll need a copy of the brilliant Forza Horizon 5 in your digital library. It’s available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S or PC, all via the Xbox Store, for a cash outlay or through an Xbox Game Pass subscription.

Drop into the comments and let us know if the cars listed have helped you out this week. We’d love to know if they are helping you out.
