It’s one of the best Game Pass days in recent memory, as four games drop onto the service, including one that’s nothing short of a blockbuster. It’s one of those days that would actually benefit from a Groundhog Day, as there’s not enough feasible time in the day (or week) to play them all.
Here we go: today sees the launch of Assassin’s Creed Origins (Cloud, Console and PC), Chorus (Cloud, Console and PC), Disc Room (Cloud, Console and PC) and Spacelines from the Far Out (Console and PC).
While many people will have already played it, there’s still a chance that you may not have had the opportunity: Assassin’s Creed Origins is the Ancient Egyptian one, and – for a lot of players – it remains the best of all the Assassin’s Creeds. While it may have represented the biggest deviation yet from the stealth and roof-climbing formula of the early games in the series, it was also one of the most expansive and enjoyable.
The big question is inevitably ‘does it come with any of the DLC?’, and the answer is ‘of course not’. Ubisoft wouldn’t miss a chance to tempt you in with the main game and then withhold the DLC goodies, would they? Still, it’s a great chance to tap into the Animus once more.
Another whopping great release onto the service is Chorus. Released at the tail-end of 2021, it bypassed a lot of players, but this is a great chance to reappraise it. It’s a reimagining of the space-combat-shooter, taking the joys of a Starfox or a STAR WARS: Squadrons and heaving it into a psychedelic, reality-busting place. You play Nara, hell-bent on destroying the cult that created her, all while flying a sentient spaceship. In our review, we gave Chorus a 4.5/5, saying “the overwhelming majority of Chorus is hugely enjoyable. It’s a vast game, one that is fast and furious with a story that keeps pulling you along”. Sounds like a belter.
The other two games this month are more unknown quantities. Disc Room has been garnering a following on PC from hardcore players who love to stream its ridiculous, bullet-hell-with-blades gameplay. If you have a hankering for some masochism, then give it a play. Spacelines from the Far Out, meanwhile, is a mish-mash of genres that sounds like it might be manic fun. It’s a co-operative management sim, layered onto a roguelike structure, as you and your friends own and maintain a space airline. We’re loving the ‘60s Buck Rogers-meets-Dan-Dare vibe to the experience, and will definitely be pulling up to its terminal.
Outside of today’s releases, it may have passed you by that there were two other Game Pass launches this month. For Honor: Marching Fire Edition (Cloud, Console and PC) arrived on June 1st, and Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection (Console and PC) dropped on June 2nd. We have no further confirmation of games coming out on Game Pass in June.
In terms of leavers, at the end of the month we lose Darkest Dungeon (Cloud, Console, and PC), Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance (Cloud, Console, and PC), Greedfall (Cloud, Console, and PC), Limbo (Cloud, Console, and PC) and Worms Rumble (Cloud, Console, and PC). For all that is holy, if you haven’t played Limbo, please do so now.
