We thought it a bit strange when Warner Bros and Turtle Rock Studios pretty much limited their player base by putting all focus on the multiplayer angle of Back 4 Blood. In fact, we still can’t work out the reasonings for why achievements, progression and supply points were kept away from solo players. That changes from today though, as the latest free update for the game fixes a host of issues – whilst also adds in some rather tasty holiday themed gear.
We love Back 4 Blood but we hated the fact that for real progression to be made – and for our beloved Xbox achievements to be had – the single player was limited. With the free December update for the game though, the teams behind it are now allowing players to jump into the solo offline campaign mode, giving them progression rights, the chance to earn supply points, pick up achievements and other unlockables.
And what’s more, all progression is carried over and from the online campaign.
Further, this December 2021 Update also introduces “Roving Merchants” which are rotating, time-limited, supply lines that provide players with more rewards to spend Supply Points on. Through the “34th Street” Roving Merchant, players can unlock seasonal character skins, weapon skins, emblems, and sprays. This holiday specific track allows players to obtain reindeer antlers headband for Holly, snow hat for Doc, and other in-game gear to celebrate the holidays, all of which is perfectly complemented by festive decorations displayed around Fort Hope.
And then you can also now throw in brand-new cards known as Burn Cards. Available through Roving Merchants, these can be played in each saferoom to gain temporary effects, such as instant healing, currency boosts, increasing resistances, and more.
In all, if you’rer a fan of the first person cooperative-fuelled zombie shooter and are looking for a reason to return to Back 4 Blood, then you’ll find all of the following available for free…
- New solo offline campaign mode with progression
- New Roving Merchants supply lines
- New seasonal character skins, weapon skins, emblems, and sprays*
- New cards and brand-new card type, Burn Cards
- New zombie practice area
- Fort Hope holiday themed decorations**
- Jukebox music tracks now adjustable via music slider
- Randomized character bots for solo mode
- Balancing adjustments to Recruit, Veteran and Nightmare difficulty levels
Holiday themed gear is available until January 11th 2022.
You can pick up the game right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S (the Xbox Store link is here if you need to get that download), PS4, PS5 and PC.
