Earthion – out now on console

A brand-new, yet authentically retro, side-scrolling space shooter from some of the most legendary names of the 16-bit era has just blasted its way onto consoles.

Earthion, the new title from developer Ancient Corporation, has launched on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch for £16.74.

This isn’t a remaster or a remake; this is a brand-new game, developed natively for 16-bit systems, from the very same people who brought you some of the most iconic games of the golden age.

From the Legends of the 16-Bit Era

What makes the launch of Earthion so special is the incredible pedigree behind it. The game is the brainchild of the legendary Japanese developer Ancient Corporation, the studio founded by the iconic video game composer Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage, Ys).

They have a long and storied history of creating some of the best games of the 16-bit era, and with Earthion, they are returning to their roots.

In Earthion, you will guide the space fighter pilot Azusa Takanashi on a desperate mission to save planet Earth. You must repel a horde of alien invaders, battling your way through eight chaotic levels, each with its own unique environment, a host of dangerous enemies, and a powerful boss fight waiting at the end.

From PC Hit to Console Classic

While today marks its debut on console, Earthion first launched on Steam back in July of this year. In that short time, it has built a dedicated following of shmup fans, earning a coveted “Very Positive” review score for its authentic 16-bit action and brilliant design.

Now, a whole new audience on Xbox and other consoles can experience this modern classic for themselves.

Here’s what you can expect from this new retro adventure:

  • A Brand-New 16-Bit Shooter: Developed natively for 16-bit systems by the legendary Ancient Corporation.
  • Classic Side-Scrolling Action: Battle through eight chaotic levels to repel the alien invaders and save Earth.
  • Unique Environments and Bosses: Each level features its own unique enemies and a powerful boss fight.
  • “Very Positive” Steam Hit: The acclaimed PC shooter makes its long-awaited console debut.

The alien invaders are here, and Earth’s last hope is in your hands. If you’re a fan of classic 16-bit shoot ’em ups and the legendary work of Yuzo Koshiro, Earthion is ready for you on the Xbox Store right now.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
