End of Abyss – unveiled

If you’ve ever been captivated by the beautiful, unsettling worlds of the Little Nightmares series, you’ll want to pay close attention. A new studio, Section 9 Interactive, founded by veteran developers from those very games, has just debuted its upcoming atmospheric action-adventure, End of Abyss.

Presented by Epic Games, this dark sci-fi tale is set to launch in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Descend into the Abyss

End of Abyss plunges players into a harrowing descent through a mysterious and derelict underground compound. You take on the role of Cel, a young combat technician sent on a mission to investigate disturbances of unknown origin.

What begins as a routine investigation spirals into a desperate journey through a broken and abandoned world where broken machines whisper from the depths and nothing you encounter is fully human.

The game promises a heavy emphasis on atmosphere, tasking players with uncovering the dark truths of the facility while confronting the monstrous creatures that now roam its corridors.

Explore and Survive

The core gameplay of End of Abyss is a tense blend of exploration and survival. As Cel, you are outmatched by the twisted horrors that inhabit the facility. To stay alive, you must adapt, pushing your limits by upgrading your gear to even the odds.

Exploration is key to survival. The sprawling complex is filled with branching paths and hidden areas, which can be uncovered using your scanner and other tools unlocked along the way.

In a style reminiscent of classic Metroidvania design, new pathways will open as you grow stronger, allowing you to return to forgotten corridors and unearth secrets that were once sealed away.

A Legacy of Atmosphere and Intrigue

What makes this announcement so exciting is the pedigree of the team behind it. Section 9 Interactive was founded by veteran developers whose résumés include the critically acclaimed Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares 2.

This background provides immediate context for the kind of experience the studio aims to create. The Little Nightmares series is celebrated for its masterful tension, compelling visuals, and unique world-building. Section 9 Interactive is carrying that passion forward with an ambition to create games with similarly compelling visuals and interesting worlds to explore. Given their track record, End of Abyss is a title that atmospheric adventure fans should be watching very closely.

The mission to uncover the facility’s dark secrets is slated to begin in 2026. You will find the game coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.

Prepare to discover what truths lie waiting at the End of Abyss.

A brand-new trailer gives us our first look into the mysterious depths that await.
