Eight Hours To Save Humanity
It’s May 23rd, 1993, and the Lady of the Past has somehow managed to wipe the brains of humanity. Future Knight must travel back eight hours and sabotage her day before the apocalypse becomes unavoidable.
Each of the eight biomes represents another hour of the countdown, taking players through increasingly strange environments and enemies. One minute you’re dealing with a construction site, the next you’re battling your way through a sushi conveyor belt.
Helping Future Knight along the way is Two More, a benign but inexplicably powerful tumour living inside him. Naturally.
A Shoot ‘Em Up With A Difference
Future Knight and Two More each have their own abilities, and switching between them is central to both combat and exploration. Future Knight brings the firepower, while Two More can dash, climb walls and squeeze into areas his larger companion can’t reach.
The game also embraces a wonderfully strange visual style inspired by LCD handheld games. Everything looks like animated ink blots trapped inside an electronic screen, creating a suitably weird mixture of retro nostalgia and grotesque imagery.
There’s more to it than simply shooting your way through eight increasingly odd hours, too. You’ll need to collect mysterious sectarian triangles, deal with challenging bosses and master the different movement options as the game switches between horizontal and vertical scrolling. The whole thing is backed by a deliberately bizarre story filled with dark humour and surreal situations.
