Gallipoli has just received its first major free expansion, with Ali Al Muntar taking players to a new battlefield inspired by the Second Battle of Gaza in 1917. Available now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the update adds a new map, four weapons and something rather unusual for the WW1 Game Series – tanks.
BlackMill Games has released the expansion as the first major step in Gallipoli’s post-launch roadmap, giving owners a sizeable new battlefield to tackle without having to spend another penny. And while the game remains focused on infantry combat, those tanks could certainly change how an attack unfolds.

A Very Different Kind Of Gallipoli Battlefield
Ali Al Muntar moves the action away from the familiar Gallipoli setting and into a battlefield featuring open farmland, coastal dunes and rows of cacti.
Those cacti aren’t simply there to make the landscape look the part, either. Their positioning breaks up sightlines and creates alternative routes across the battlefield, potentially forcing players to think a little differently about how they approach the enemy.
The opening attack has another trick up its sleeve. Automated tanks now advance alongside the attacking troops, providing moving cover as infantry push towards enemy positions.
It’s an interesting addition given that Gallipoli remains an infantry-only experience. Players aren’t jumping into the tanks themselves, but their presence should make the opening stages of battles feel rather different.
Four New Weapons Join The Fight
The Ali Al Muntar expansion also adds four bespoke weapons, giving both sides some fresh hardware to master.
British forces receive the long-range Enfield Pattern 1914 Mk.I and a clip-fed variant of the Lee-Enfield Mk.I. The Ottoman forces meanwhile gain access to the rapid-firing Winchester Model 1866 and the powerful, single-reload Snider M1867.
There are also two cosmetic DLC packs are also available, with the Khaki Pack introducing the West Kent subfaction and the Black Watch Pack adding the Scottish subfaction.
Both form part of the Second Expedition and are included with the Second Expedition Season Pass.
More importantly, Ali Al Muntar is being positioned as the starting point for Gallipoli’s wider post-launch support. BlackMill Games plans to continue expanding the game through a series of Expeditions, with further maps, weapons and features planned alongside improvements driven by player feedback.
“We wanted to get the first free update into players’ hands quickly after launch,” said Jos Hoebe, CEO at BlackMill Games. “Ali Al Muntar feels quite different to any of the other maps currently in Gallipoli. The placement of the cacti famous in the region really changes the way you fight, and the tanks in the opening of the battle set players up for something truly special. We’re really proud of being able to represent so many diverse battlefields across the whole WW1 Series.”
That could prove particularly welcome given our 3.5/5 review of Gallipoli, in which we praised its intense multiplayer battles while noting that the limited number of game modes could have an impact on longevity.
As we said in our review: “Gallipoli is a solid multiplayer experience, delivering a high standard of online warfare.”
The arrival of a completely new battlefield, new weapons and a fresh tactical wrinkle certainly gives players another reason to return.
Gallipoli Keeps The Focus On Teamwork
Released in August 2026, Gallipoli is the fourth standalone entry in BlackMill Games’ WW1 Game Series, following Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo.
The formula remains centred around historically inspired multiplayer warfare, with class-based combat, objective-focused battles, period weapons and crossplay between PC and console players. Ten historical classes offer different specialisations, while bots can fill out public matches and are also available as an option in custom games.
Ali Al Muntar doesn’t attempt to turn Gallipoli into something it isn’t. Instead, it adds another piece to the existing experience, with the combination of a very different landscape, four new weapons and those surprisingly imposing tanks giving the battlefield a new identity.
Ali Al Muntar is available now as a free update for Gallipoli owners on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
