Game Pass is in a couple of very different gears today. If you like things slow and tactical, there is the board game favourite and now turn-based mainstay Total War: Warhammer III on PC. And in the higher gear, timed to coincide with Superbowl week, is Madden NFL 22.
Total War: Warhammer III is a big coup for Game Pass. This is a big-selling RTS stalwart, and Game Pass is getting it on day-one for PC. Xbox owners among us can cry that we’re not getting a chance to play it, but PC master-racers will be laughing.
This is the cataclysmic conclusion to the trilogy of games, as it takes place almost entirely in the Realm of Chaos, the home of the daemons. As with the previous games, these are turn-based battles that channel the spirit of the tabletop GOAT, but there are some additional reasons to play. There are two new factions, in the form of Grand Cathay and the Daemons of Khorne, and Creative Assembly have also included new game modes and ways to play. No two campaigns will be the same.
But then Madden NFL 22 (PC and Console) enters the park, thanks to EA Play, only a few days late for Superbowl. You know what you’re getting with Madden: crunchy and high-octane football, mapped to different playbook strategies. There’s plenty here, from Ultimate Team’s wallet-rinsing multiplayers modes to Franchise Mode, where you zoom out and manage the whole team, its staff and sponsors.
Game Pass has got such high standards that the remainder of February 2022 looks a little weak. We’ve got plenty on our Game Pass backlogs, though, so maybe it’s a secret godsend. You can expect Roboquest (PC) on February 22nd, Galactic Civilizations III (PC) and Super Mega Baseball 3 (Console) on February 24th, and Alice: Madness Returns (PC) on February 28th. But that’s about it – at least until we hit March.
