Original Article: April 20th 2023

It’s pretty safe to say that Blasphemous was a pretty big hit when it launched in 2019. It comes as no surprise to discover a sequel in the works then.

Blasphemous 2 from Team17 and The Game Kitchen has been announced, premiered at the Indie World Showcase ahead of launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC later in 2023.

As you would expect to hear, Blasphemous 2 follows The Penitent One as he awakens in an unfamiliar land, displaced from his final resting place, and thrust back into the endless cycle of life, death, and resurrection. This one will be set after the events found in the original game’s Wounds of Eventide expansion from late-2021, as The Miracle returns to ensure that The Penitent One has nothing to do other than explore a strangely unfamiliar world.

Defeating foes and attempting to put a stop to the prophetic birth of a new miracle child will be front and centre of Blasphemous 2, with the game featuring grotesque enemies and titanic bosses clambering to return him to the grave. It’ll be up to The Penitent One to utilise and master new weapons and an enhanced skillset and try to survive long enough to deliver judgment to those who stand in his way, while unravelling long forgotten secrets.

Blasphemous 2 key features will sit as…

  • Discover a rich non-linear world: A series of enchantingly grotesque landscapes await, oozing gothic charm and littered with unforgiving traps; there is no wrong turn to take, only scores to settle
  • Unleash savage combat: Brutal executions and expanded combos provide new and devastating ways to rain destruction on the abominations that await
  • Play your way: Blasphemous 2 provides the ability to customise and improve the Penitent Ones’ base skillset, and introduces new unique weapons that expand player tactics
  • Overcome intense Boss Battles: Twisted bosses with unique attack patterns and sundering abilities await in the darkest corners of this twisted new land

We’ll keep you updated as more info regarding Blasphemous 2 is unveiled by Team17 and The Game Kitchen. For now, hit up the trailer below.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
