Get automated with the Space Engineers: Automatons

Whilst Space Engineers landed on Xbox back in April 2020 with much potential, we weren’t overly keen on the execution. That’s not to stop us from making the most of the tools available to us though and today we welcome in the Space Engineers: Automatons DLC.

Space Engineers is an open-world sandbox title that deals with a ton of creativity and loads of exploration. It has you utilising physics-based elements as you head to the stars, building the finest space machines in order to survive in the deep dark.

But when Space Engineers launched on Xbox, we found it to be a bit too fiddly and ultimately it failed to launch. In fact, whilst we were fully onboard with the interesting ideas behind it, and loved the sheer number of things we could get involved in, it was a glitch-filled experience that needed some QOL improvments.

That was some three years ago though and whilst we can’t say we’ve been dipping back into the space adventures on a regular basis, there is a chance some of those issues have been fixed up, making this one look sharp.

You’ll know if that is the case if you are even the slightest bit interested in the DLC pack that has now arrived for the game. It’s that which comes in the form of Space Engineers: Automatons for just £4.19

Building out the base game with – yep, you guessed it – automation, splashing the cash on the Automatons DLC will see you given access to a ton of new mechanics and features, including the likes of Timer Blocks, Saddle Cockpits, Interior Walls, skins and more. Keen Software, those behind Space Engineers are keen – yep, they are – to point out that buying this pack will not give you an advantage over other players so please don’t see this as a ‘Pay-to-win’ option.

Pay up though and all of the following will be yours.

You’ll need the base game of Space Engineers to hand in order to make the most of the Automatons Pack. Both of them are available at the Xbox Store, playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The base game will set you back £16.74 if you don’t already have it. The game is on PC too.

DLC Description:

Space Engineers: Automatons pack includes Automaton Programmable Block, Automaton Timer Block, Automaton Sensor, Top Mounted Camera, Saddle Cockpit, Emotion Controller, Warning Signs, Angled Interior Wall, Inset Light Block, Pipework Block, Access panels, Air Vent Fan, Robot Helmet Skin, Plastic Armor Skin. This content is not “pay to win” and the owner of the package has no advantage against other players. If you decide not to purchase the Automatons pack, but you want to play with friends or other players who did buy Automatons, you will still be able to join a multiplayer game or server with them and participate.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
